I've been on Mylan generic lex since October and my Walgreens just switched to camber generic. Anyone have any issues with switching between generics? I've never been on the brand name? Anyone taken the camber lex before?

BB:
There "should" be no difference between generics, as a molecule is a molecule, the body cannot tell who makes it. The difference comes in what the company uses for binders & fillers. This is not a problem for most people unless they have allergies to the fillers & binders. Generic companies use whatever is the cheapest, usually. In Canada, the government requires that testing be done on every batch of a medication made. By law, the generic drugs must match (with a 5% leeway) the brand name in dissolution, blood level, metabolism, excretion, etc. I am sure that the US has similar laws.
In short, there should be no problem switching from one generic to another (or from brand to generic).
That said, occasionally people will say that a certain generic doesn't work as well as the brand or even other generic. When many people say this about a particular medication you gotta believe them. For example when Effexor (venlafaxine) first went generic people claimed a certain brand didn't work as well as the brand. People were relapsing. This is no longer the case, so I think that the manufacturer quietly changed something; probably the filler(no announcement was ever made).
Other generics which still, in my opinion, do not work as well as brand are certain generic birth control pills (causing breakthrough bleeding), and 2 generic brands of salbutamol (Ventolin) inhalers.
Most times people claim differences between brand & generic drugs the differences are psychological in nature; but not always.
As for generic escitalopram, we do not have a generic version in Canada, yet. Ask your pharmacist if he/she has heard anyone complain of efficacy differences between the brands. Pharmacists are told by corporate which brands to stock, but most pharmacists will tell you whether they have heard of differences; if they don't you are liable to here about it from other sources. This would make the pharmacist who lied look bad, so lying ain't worth it.
I hope that this is of some help - Cam

Cam this was very helpful to me. Can I ask a question? I do not want to hyjack the thread but cut down from 50mg of luvox taken for about 11 years to 12.5 and upped lexapro to 7.5mg from 2.5mg. And I'm finding that I am making a lot of typos and not caring as much as just falling asleep after taking these meds at 2:00am. As work online till late at night and then like to read. That isn't normal for me and have been cutting benzos valium to less than 7.5mg and xanax less than .25mg. Namebrand lexapro as when the Rx quoted the difference in price from namebrand to generic hardly any difference. So could the switching of meds cause this as starting to feel I have Alzheimers or the beginnings of. I'm about to turn 67 years old. Baseball I sincerly apologize. I'm sorry I diverted your thread but don't know who else to ask. Phillipa

Phillipa:
I think that I am going through the same thing as you and I am no longer on any antidepressants. I find that coming back to this site I have to edit much more for typos than I use to. I n my case I am chalking it up to aging, and perhaps the mild MS that I was diagnosed with 2 years ago. I am also having trouble finding the right words to use when typing a reply.
In your case this may not be so. How long ago did you increase the Lexapro dose? If recently (e.g. within the last month or so), it may be just adjusting to the meds.
I am sorry, but I really can't say why you are getting the typos you are experiencing. - Cam

Cam I've been taking low doses of lexapro 2.5mg to 5mg for over two years along with 50mg of luvox that I've taken for approximately 11 years and recently have been cutting down the luvox now to 12.5mg and upped the lexapro to 7.5mg. Since I have a 43 year of anxiety first panic disorder I've also been on benzos first when only 24. Still take .25mg of xanax & 7.5mg of valium. I know I have tolerance as no more relaxation when take them. Never any meds during the day. I find I feel better after I've been out and the day is about over. I question if later in the day means the meds are out of my sytem somewhat and if I even need them. Unfortunately the pdoc I see is older than I and doesn't listen or seem to care so I basically see him for meds. My old pdoc and I had a good relationship she unfortunately retired. But she always said take what you feel comfortable with. Which gave me permission to "Play" with them. She didn't mind. I never took an ad till thyroid was disconvered to be hashimotos thyroiditis and menopause. I still know I feel worse after I take the synthroid even though both the endo and internet say no side effects. Also lost taste and smell 9 years ago and was told biaxin xl was probably the cause by infection control doc that was treating me for chronic lymes disease. I do not believe this as had perfect taste when on the med. So I'm very confused as to what is going on and also what to do. Stop the higher lexapro and add back the luvox to higher dose again. Or try to eliminate them all? I do find my anxiety is now internal and comes out in bodily symtoms such as rashes and other body symptoms. You sure didn't ask for all this but I've always trusted a pharmacist the most. I'm sorry to hear you have MS. I had a lumbar punction and brain MRI that ruled it out during the lymes. Sorry for the long answer. Phillipa
