Adderall on campu$

Posted by Phil on March 4, 2013, at 9:12:41

I picked up my Adderall script the other day and the drug tech was kind of apologizing that my price had doubled in 3 months. I told her not to worry about it and that I read kids are paying $30-$40 a pill on campus so I'll make my money back. She said they pay more than that at finals.
When I read that story on an ADD forum I couldn't believe it and I'm hardly naive about these things.
Seems like campus' all over are drowning in Adderall.

So, my script = $130 going rate at campus=$3600
Gross profit = $3470 per month

******Disclaimer: I've never sold drugs and I'm not about to start now. I've never broken that rule even in the old days. I would never add to the problem. I'm just simply amazed.
This post can be deleted with my blessing.

Phil if it's adderal and upper meds so to speak why is that the crack downs are so bad for opiods or any pain meds? Is this another segment of society? And what happens to the brains of one who does this to their brains. And does it show up in drug testing? If they land that job will they pass the drug screen? Phillipa

Well, the FDA was limiting Adderall to the point that patients couldn't get scripts filled. They are aware of the problem. Can't speak to opiods. College kids, many of the do drugs and mix etc. Their brains should be fine, compared to what my generation did, Adderall is baby aspirin. I don't think stims stay in your system long for drug test unless they test hair. That's why I'm against drug testing, it's pot testing because it's in your system a long time. You can shoot heroin and be good in days, smoke a joint, no job. They can easily pass a drug screen for a job if they don't do it right before unless they test hair I guess.

Phil - Being on the front line of the drug distribution change, I personally see diversion happening, & suspect much more (but then again, after 29 years, I could just be jaded).

I see people picking up their prescription having other sketchy people paying for them. I have seen drug deals done in front of the pharmacy counter.

I see a family (3 generations; 5 people) all taking high doses of oxycodone (Oxycontin 80mg five times daily) and not putting them through their insurance; then buying small quantities every day or every other day, until the prescription is finished. I see different people waiting outside in a car almost every time a prescription is filled.

I do work as a relief pharmacist, so work at 10+ pharmacies, & see this kind of behaviour at nearly every pharmacy that I work at. I have no proof of what's going on, but I am not an idiot, either.

i know all too well about the shortage of Adderall.
it is a Major player in keeping my mood above sea level.

its So frustrating that a few people can f the system enough that they are now injurying those that Actually need it.

and i cant BELIEVE that mark up!
H$$$, one month of sales could pay for all my rx's for a year!
to bad i cant even go a day without it...

Phil - FYI:

Dexedrine is an isomer of the two that are in ADDeral. In Canada, Dexedrine is less than a quarter the price of ADDeral, and comes in 2 long-acting strengths. There is no generic of Dexedrine, yet.

When I get Medicare in July I'd like to go back to Vyvanse. Very smooth, it's Dex isn't it? Or go to Add XR. I don't like trying to time my dose to stay even.

Yeah, the markup. I guarantee you that some kids are paying their way through school, or letting their parents do it while they live a nice lifestyle selling Adderall. The demand is so high that I would think the odds of being busted are low.

Dexedrine is dextro-amphetamine whereas Vyvanase is lisdexamfetamine. The Dexedrine Spansules (long-acting) are even cheaper than the Vyvanse. I believe the Dexedrine is more potent (& unfortunately more speedy) than either the ADDerall or the Vyvanase.

You Yanks probably don't have Dexedrine in the US.

The situation does suck; many docs in Canada won't prescribe amphetamines for legitimate uses, like fatigue from high doses of antidepressants.

I took Dexedrine about ten years ago. I built a house one weekend on it.
I took Vyvance several months ago before losing my insurance. It was really good, it was sometimes hard to tell I was taking anything, I just felt better.
Both it and Adderall XR are well over $300 for my dose. And, generic Adderall is sometimes higher than brand.

Well, there's a point for socialized medicine. About a year ago the government mandated that anyone producing a generic must charge 45% of the Brand price or less.

Unbelievable about the things you see at work. I honestly never would have thought this was happening so frequently. Phillipa

In Australia, dexamphetamine is generic only, 100 x 5mg tabs are about $10-$15 depending on which pharmacy you go to

Ain't that a bitch. The US just says, hey sell it for whatever you can get for it.
