My son 26 yrs old lives by himself in apartment near us. He has had the best success with Zyprexa having been taking it and Zoloft for about 7 years. The positive effects of this med began to fade about a year ago. It seemed as if after the dosage was increased he improved for a few weeks, then it was mostly the side effects of Zy. that remained like big appetite, somnolence and in his case what he calls 'Panic Attack' (something like trouble swallowing etc.) His psy doc started him on Saphris a month ago at 5mg per day. decrease in ZY. also to 5 mg. This month he upped it to 10mg Saphris. 4 days later on a visit he was moving his eyes side to side then up and down quickly. I reported it to Psy doc, he said stop Saphris immediately take 2 Benadryl a day to counteract it. Sooo, providing he's OK where do we go next? Help! Help!

There's a clinical trial underway using the probiotics Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG and Bifidobacterium (BB12) to treat schizoaffective disorder. You can read about it here:
http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT01242371
These two strains of probiotics are available in a product called USANA Probiotic Plus.

Did he switch to the generic zyprexa about a year ago like I did? Could just be the particular generic hes taking. I'm having good luck with the Teva olanzapine. Still every generic is different. You could always try going back to brand zyprexa if none of the generics work.
