I've posed this question before, but I'm finding Ketamine is probably not going to be a long term solution, and I'm interested in taking as little meds as possible. I've been on Lexapro alone and combined w other meds (nortryptiline, Wellbutrin, etc.) for years and it doesn't cut it.
I'm thinking of abandoning Lexapro altogether. Pdoc suggested Viibryd, but it's hardly mentioned on this forum. I'm thinking Nardil. In the last year, my depression went from being a hybrid to almost pure melancholic:
-I cry all the time
-I can't sleep and when I do it's for about 2 hours. I awake very early
-Major irritability & anxiety--I snap at everything/one
-Hopelessness
-mood swings...and the list goes on.
I don't know what to do anymore. Im on my way to the pdoc in a bit, but I'm bringing up Nardil and would love feedback.
Thanks, all.

Could it be the ketamine that caused the above? Or was it all present before the treatments? I remember you writing that lexapro was pretty good for you? Viibryd is or was used by Eric. Phiddipus a while back and he liked it?
What were you thinking of medwise? Phillipa

Mirtazapine in a dose of 45mg/day
or
Nortriptyline, in a dose of 75-150mg/day
It might be though, that you'll need to combine 2 drugs to get optimim effect, there are a few safe, rational combinations out there, for example
SSRI + Welbutrin
SSRI + Nortriptyline
Mirtazapine plus Effexor or Cymbalta
Antidepressant of choice combined with a low dose atypical antipsychotic

Given that you have had some sucsess with lexapro, taking this in combination with nortriptyline, Welbutrin or mirtazapine would make a lot of sense
