Lexapro dose

Posted by Baseball85 on January 28, 2013, at 11:43:05

Hey Guys,
I have been in lexapro 10mg for about 3 1/2 months now. Doc had me taking 5mg in the morning and 5mg at night due to pretty bad side effects. Those have subsided and instead of upping my dose, he wants me to take 10mg in the morning. I have done this for about 6 days now and def have increased anxiety. Is my body reacting as if I had a dose increase? Thanks

Baseball when told my doc I take both luvox and lexapro at night he asked if it kept me awake at night. No it doesn't. So now I wonder if get paradoxical reaction to ads? I still havn't heard of splitting the dose of lexapro. But things seem to change daily. Phillipa

Perhaps.

Are you happy with your therapeutic response to Lexapro?

I think the sweet spot for Lexapro is 20 mg/day. A great many people experience anxiety in weeks 2 - 3 of treatment. It may be that your low dosage is not allowing for the anxiety to dissipate so as to be replaced by an antidepressant or anxiolytic effect. Is there any reason why you cannot afford the time to test a 20 mg/day dosage? If your anxiety gets worse or persists for more than a week, you can always discontinue the drug or return to your 5 mg b.i.d. dosing schedule. I cannot say for certain how you will react to a dosage increase. I guess you already know that some people go to 40 mg/day.

Thanks Scott. My doc said he thinks I need that 10mg kick in the morning. He wants me to give that a try for a weeks or so and see how I feel and then bump to 15 if needed. When I first started the meds I had this uncomfortable not being able to relax feeling. I did go away so I'm assuming that's what this is. This is my first time on meds so I am still trying to figure everything out. Hopefully this will pass and I can move on or move up. Thanks

Could you push the dose to 20mg per day, and ask your doctor for a 2 wek course of a benzo (Valium, Ativan, Xanax) to cover the start up anxiety? Ativan 1mg twice a day for 2 weeks should be all you need, no risk of dependence with short term use like this, and it might just get you "over the hump"

You could split the dose into 10mg twice a day if that helped

i would take it at night...lexepro is potent with serotonin, and it does improve the sleep cycle....

I went up 20mg and it worked better. (nm) » Baseball85
