Starting ziprasidone/Zeldox/Geodon

Posted by tensor on January 27, 2013, at 14:23:21

Tonight. Wish me luck, I need it.

Anyway, this take-with-meal thing has gotten me confused.
Accordingly to this site:
http://thelastpsychiatrist.com/2007/02/geodon_is_not_bid.html

There should be a rather large meal, which is not ok for me at bedtime. Anyone knows if it differs where you get your calories from? I always take a protein drink before bedtime, powder mixed with 3dl (3.4ounces) milk (1.5% fat). That's appr. 140kcal from milk and 130kcal from protein which adds up to 270kcal.
At morning I eat plenty so that won't be a problem. OTOH, I guess a little lower bioavailability for the evening dose isn't a big deal.

I'm not gonna eat fat before bedtime. But I figured I can take that dose at dinner.

I'm struggling with this for a family member I'm currently caretaker for. She has dementia and takes, among other things, Geodon and Synthroid. It's so darned hard to manage getting her the Synthroid on an empty stomach, then wait 30-60 minutes, then eat a solid meal in order to take the Geodon when she's up at all hours of the day and night. And I admit, I give her the Geodon at breakfast and dinner, even if it's not 12 hours apart, because I do want her body to absorb as much as possible. Why does it have to be so darned complicated?

Good luck,

gg

Only way I figured out how to take synthroid without calcium is to take when wake during early morning hours before I get up. I then go back to sleep. Phillipa

I take mine when I first get up, then don't eat for 30-60 minutes. My body's used to not eating as soon as I get up. The person I'm caring for at the moment never used to pay attention to the empty stomach rule, so it's been especially hard to make this work.

First years didn't know not to so was taking with calcium/magnesium, and then cereal and yogurt mixed together. Needed a higher dose. Probably why my bones are so bad today. Funny thing is felt better when TSH was higher since the range changed to 1-2 feel tireder and strange. Had a pdoc once that only he would monitor per his orders and he liked it in the 5-8 range. Only when moved here saw an endo did I have to change the way I took it. And I just don't like this way. Phillipa
