lethargy

Posted by Donna Louise on January 21, 2013, at 16:58:01

iknow this must have been discussed a million times but I either forget or need new info since I last visisted the group. I have no motivation, could stay in bed all day and everything is an effort. I used to be in great physical shape and now I am not. I have bipolar II and take
80mg prozac
200mg lamictal
5mg abilify

I am trying 40 mg of adderal but apparantly am having a paradoxical reaction because it just seems to amplify the memory loss and stupor I guess you could call it.
Anyone with info I would gratefully appreciate.

Thanks a bunch
Donna

I'm on Adderall now, with four other meds, and I don't like it. I started it after losing insurance which was paying for Vyvanse. Totally different, very smooth, last 12-14 hours as advertised.

I'm sure you'll get more input but I've become a major fan of Vyvanse. Anyway, hope things work out.

I have used 400mg of provigil for about 7 years or more. Helped at first but quit after awhile. I kept taking it though because it helped with mood. This change to adderal has been only for a few months. If the med you mentioned doesn't help, I will go back to it just for the elevation in mood. Maybe that is as good a reason to just take that and sleep alot....

I've always said that Provigil and Nuvigil must be the highest priced placebo's ever made. My doc tried me on them after my previous doc tried me on them. I kind of said you're wasting my time. And he was. I feel nothing from those drugs. Weird.

yea....im actually switching to provigil....there is things like wellbutrin with provigil which will definetly give you kick...its not like adderall, more mild version. You sound like your having a bad condition with no energy...yea it looks like the adderall is not working, there are some other medication you can add....vivicil, wellbutrin, and of course the methyphenidate class which is not as strong as amphetamine. But if amphetamine is not working, you may want to increase it to 60mg in one dose....its just the doctor may have a problem with that...60mg of adderall will defintly activate the mind.

What about coffee? or ginseng....energy supplements...the only thing bad about those are they can cause jitteryness and unpleaant feeling like your going to jump out of your skin....just a while i had coffee...by body is wierd, and right now im nervous wreck.

There is one more thing....i don't know how it is used for narcolepsy but Xyrem is a med for that....i may definetly be wrong, but i've read studies that they use that....

hang in there...see if you can get adderall increased, that may help...

Are you stable on Lamictal alone?

In addiion to lamictal I am also on rrozac and abilify...and the adderall. I am encouraged by the previous poster's mention of Vyvance. I woner if I sleep to avoid life. I really don't have any inclination to do anything. Maybe I am expecting a drug to do something I should make myself do but I don't think do. I think it is part of the disease.

I was wondering if you were stable on Lamictal alone because you could quit the other two, and start over from there. Prozac may increase plasma levels of Abilify, effectively making the Abilify plasma levels larger than your dose.
Many complain that Abilify blocks the effects of stims, and it makes sense. When I took Abilify, I could not drink alcohol, because nothing happened. It blocked the "fun" effects of alcohol.
Before testing another stim, try it without Abilify, but remember it takes a while to wash-out because of its long half-life. If you feel you need an AAP for some reason, I'd suggest Seroquel.

i have always needed an SSRI and the abilify was supposed to enhance the effects of the prozac. It did for awhile and now a poop out. I have been weaning from the A, now on 5mg and I hope you are right in my case too. It does make alot of sense with A being a dopamine inhibitor They may cancel the effects of one another.

ps: My memory and general cognitive abilites have not improved either. ugh
