I was reading a website article discussing the benefits of ketamine (yes, aka Special K) as an antidepressant. The researchers have apparently conducted all manner of studies in rats, and the results look very promising. Of course, the speaker in no way purported that the street formulation of the drug fell into this class, but the potential to develop a safe and effective version of the active compound in the drug is astounding. for more information, check out zeitnews.com under psychology.

One clinical trial showed that 51% of its subjects responded to ketamine. These were people with treatment-resistant depression. It's already being used to treat depression at UCSD Medical Center and at Ben Taub General Hospital in Houston. Edward Fruitman is a New York City psychiatrist who gives some of his depressed patients ketamine injections. And Nancy Sajben is a La Jolla, CA doctor who prescribes ketamine nasal spray for depression.

I was so excited that I found one. I went in today for an interview, but did not make the criteria primarily based on having failed responses to over 5 meds! So you are suppose to have failed more than 1 but less than 5 for this particular trial?
She said she has heard of doctors that will do it, but I think it's like $1000 an injection. To start out I think you need to try 2-3 a week to get a correct dosage. She said she will see if she can find a dr. for me, but that's a lot of money.
