Trileptal combs/issues

Posted by Sheilac on December 12, 2012, at 6:26:28

Doc wouldn't let me replace Lamictal with BuSpar. She wants me to up Trileptal to 900 mg a day and stick with low-dose Lamictal. Tried that for a few days and Trileptal is too high for me. Depersonalization and peeing all the time, plus and depression. Lamictal is not helping at this point.

Going to drop back down to 600 mg a day of Trileptal.

Still need to address the depression side and lack of motivation and energy.

Wondering if going back to a couple of low doses a day of Adderall is the answer. Or do I really push the doctor on adding BuSpar instead of Lamictal.

Not sure I can make it through the holidays with this much depression. Also I'm caring for someone with cancer and it's really taking its toll mentally.

Is there another alternative to this? Do I try generic Effexor?

Weird side effect of Trileptal 900 mg made me pee the bed last night! Also weird side effect of Lamictal is making me so hungry I've gained 8 pounds since being on it.

I know I'm weird and tend to have the opposite side effects I don't know why. I googled that hunger side effect of Lamictal and there are some people out there that experience this it's just her weird rare side effect.

Any help out there to get me through this crisis and holiday season thank you so much.

Sheila wierd side effect of meds was the constant spitting never stopped on 50mg of lamictal. Later I read it was a rare side effect of lamictal. I had to go off it.

Trileptal never had a side effect from it but was only on 150mg. I just recently read that trileptal was rated below the original tegretol for seizures. I always thought it was a superior version of the old tegretol.

I'm sorry you are having a hard time. I also hope the person you are caring for does get better.

Could all these circumstances be the cause of the depression? Phillipa

Phillipa - Trileptal...

I have to drop my dose of Trileptal back to 600mg a day. But, even a tiny dose of 150mg makes me feel depressed. It is a good stabilizer for me though. I just need a little something for the depression.

Yes, I am sure I am having extra depression due to everything going on around me. Caring for someone who is sick is exhausting and mentally depleting. Which really makes it hard if I already have low grade depression.

Today I hurt my back and had to take a Tramadol and it seems to always lift my depression. I think someone told me that it effects serotonin or neurotransmitters in the brain.

I don't think going back to Adderall is the answer. I see my doc again late next week and she may let me try Buspar then.

I don't want to feel depressed - which I normally do anyway due to the Trileptal - but at least it keeps me from getting hypomanic. But at this time in my life it is so important for me to be positive and uplifting around the person I am caring for and sometimes it is so hard.

People are always concerned about someone who is sick and battling for their life, but they don't give much thought to the one or two close family members that are caring for the sick. It is so hard. Thanks for your thought Phillipa!

Sheila true. Tramadol would be like an opiod to me a bit of a high from what I've heard. Take care of you also. Phillipa

Didn't lithium lift your depression?

What is the highest dosage of Lamictal that you tried when combined with the 600 mg/day dosage of Trileptal?

Being a care giver is hugely stressful. God bless you.

Which antidepressants have you tried that have given you some degree of relief?

Which antidepressants have triggered mania?

Have you tried Abilify or Zyprexa?

You are right about tramadol. Besides being an opioid, it is also a mild SNRI. How does it work to relieve depression? I don't know. Perhaps it is the opioid part; perhaps the SNRI part; perhaps both. I'm not sure that I would recommend it at this juncture. There are a few people here who have reported their continued use of tramadol to relieve their depression for more than a few weeks, but not many.

Tramadol is chemically related to Effexor. What was your reaction to Effexor?

> Didn't lithium lift your depression?

Yes, a low dose of Lithium did help, but I'm afraid it might have contributed to a nodule growing bigger on my thyroid. Not sure.

100mg

Thank you, life sucks right now.

> Which antidepressants have you tried that have given you some degree of relief?

Lexapro seemed to help. Made me clench my jaws, but it might be a possibility.
>

Pretty much all of them. If I did try a small dose of Lexapro I would have to take an extra dose of Trileptal at lunch. Actually, even Tramadol makes me super hyper.

Abilify made me super hungry and gave me edema. Loved Zyprexa, but my doc is afraid I would gain weight.

Effexor was great, made me a little too hyper sometimes a it was pure hell to get off of. Not sure I could ever try that again.
