The Neurontin Stupids

Posted by Christ_empowered on October 21, 2012, at 12:05:00

OK. I'm on 30/Abilify and 900/Neurontin daily. Or...I should be. My insurance would only cover 15/Abilify because my doc wrote for 2x 15 daily, and that's apparently not going to happen (understandable, given the costs...).

So, even though I wasn't taking the neurontin (made me stupid), I am now, since I'm going to be on 1/2 my (recently increased) dose of Abilify until I get a new Rx. Fun, huh?

Does this dumb *ss feeling from Neurontin go away? I swear, its worse than starting a benzo. I think its mostly for residual anxiety+agitation, not anti-manic action or anything.

Thanks

For a lot of people, high doses of Neurontin will mess with your cognitive processing and memory. Some people can get by without any issues on a lower dose, but that's a high amount. I'd look for something else, I wouldn't ever go on a high dose of lyrica. Way too much cognitive slowing.

Havent controlled studies found Neurontin to be more or less useless as a mood stabaliser?

hi c_e,

i'm not a fan of neurontin at all! i took it for awhile but it eventually made me manic so i stopped, but prior to producing mania, i found it did little for anxiety, and that that you have to keep upping the dose. the cognitive impairment is horrible; i would forget basic words all of the time, stop midway through a conversation, and literally lose days/not remember conversations/etc. these, and other stupids, only stopped when went off of it.

are you taking it instead of a benzo? very overrated drug, IMO.

i don't know about this, but neurontin actually makes me manic. while i've heard similar or the same response from other people online, pdocs always seem surprised by this.

The manufacturer refers to the side effect as 'abnormal' thinking.

Eventually this feeling goes away as your brain gets accustomed to the drug.

Its not so good for mania, but pretty good for anxiiety.
