Does anyone know about using cabergoline for bipolar depression and the dosage?

If I remember correctly, cabergoline is associated with cardiac valvulopathy (valve function).

If you wish to follow down the road of DA agonists, I think you would be better off with pramepexole or ropinerole. Both drugs work on D2 and D3 receptors whereas cabergoline works on D2 only. D3 might be important for innervating reward centers in the limbic system.

I am not impressed by the frequency with which DA agonists improve depression. Still, it would be something that I would not discount. I try to include as many alternatives as possible in my list of things to try.

If you do decide to give one of these DA agonist drugs a try, please keep us informed of your results. I hope this strategy works for you.

Because of its high incidence of psychiatric side effects, I wouldn't recommend this drug for bipolar depression.

Its a potent D2 agonist.
