Razing the Temple of Delight with ADs

She dwells with BeautyBeauty that must die;
And Joy, whose hand is ever at his lips
Bidding adieu; and aching Pleasure nigh,
Turning to poison while the bee-mouth sips:
Ay, in the very temple of Delight 25
Veil'd Melancholy has her sovran shrine,
Though seen of none save him whose strenuous tongue
Can burst Joy's grape against his palate fine;
His soul shall taste the sadness of her might,
And be among her cloudy trophies hung. 30

Is there a connection between melancholy and joy? Apathy and chronicity so often follows treatment with ADs. It seems like you can't attack melancholy with psychopharmaceuticals without damaging joy sometimes.

I accidentally quit smoking by picking up an e gig almost a month ago. It's done more in the mood brightening department than most pills.

Just pills will not fix mental illness. When one is ready it has to be approached on about six different non-med approaches.

Like Eleanor Roosevelt said, you must do what you think you cannot do.

But I hear what you're saying and I've felt like that.

True. And social situation of life sure adds to this plus finances. Used to have no longer do if had would feel secure, content, hence mentally secure and bet would just stop meds. Phillipa

If Keats was on any medication it was for TB. Now as we know. maois were initially used to treat TB. However, this was long after the time of Keats.

HMMM

maybe a new dissertation subject for research-- TB medications in the 19th C-- psychotropic effects?-- has been suggested.

Go for it, Zazenducke

They did tests on his hair and found evidence of opium, as you would expect for someone suffering from TB.

a drowsy numbness pains
My sense, as though of hemlock I had drunk,
Or emptied some dull opiate to the drains

There once was a hyped little pill
A prescription costly to fill
Once people did take it
They soon had to fake it
Their pleasure from sex became nil
