as in calling it in to the pharmacy? psychiatrists i go to around here won't do a thing with meds unless you come in for a visit. my last appointment was wednsday, and she prescribed a med in an ultra low dose that isn't doing a thing for me. i told her it wasnt going to do anything, but she prescribed it anyway. i thought she had the intention to put it in the transdermal form i ned it in at the compounding pharmacy. she even gave me her personal email so i could let her know if it's working or not. i am suffering and have been fantacizing about suicide. it wont help to simply be locked up in a room so i cant hurt myself. it has been too many years and i have been promising myself i wont go another summer like this.
also, she mentioned trying lammictal on me for off-label purposes.. and i figured i could go ahead and try thast, but i cant reach her at all.

it just seems like the ones 've been to arent willing to lift a finger unless they are being paid. i know they have toi be paid for their job, but it just seems they are a bit ridiculous about it sometimes.

My p-doc is fine with calling the pharmacy if it's to refill a scrip I am already taking or to fill a scrip for something I have taken in the past that he feels might help me. New drugs, addictive drugs (like benzos), he will only prescribe at a visit. But I see him regularly for therapy anyway, so it's not a big deal. I don't have make a separate appointment to discuss meds.

In my state, doctors can't call in prescriptions for Schedule 3 and 4 drugs. The pharmacy has to receive a written prescription. My pdoc is willing to call in other drugs, if I've already started taking them, including a change in dosage.
However, he wouldn't prescribe a new drug without a visit to discuss options and talk over risks, benefits, possible side effects, etc.

My own personal experience is that I have had many prescriptions or dose changes or refills called into the pharmacy without an actual visit. Honestly I think sometimes they are so busy it's the best way for them too. Unless it is a big change or things are too unstable.
Some of it has to do with the relationship. If it is not a tight relationship then calling in is less likely.
Since you have her personal email, use it if you haven't already.
I have no idea of your situation so I can't really comment on lamictal. Generally I am not a fan of it, but once in a while it works really good for some people. But then, all meds are like that.

Seems lately the docs here are not actually writing scripts are generating them by computer to pharmacies. Not just pdocs, endos, and others as well. P

its a medicare/medicaid thing. it started with that, (the electronic stuff) and so docs switched for all px.

not sure why. but medicare went all electronic it was starting at a certain time period but some docs jumped on the band wagon a little early and figured ifthey have to do it for the px on medicare/mecid then just do it px wide.
i think after medicare did it other ins. providers went to move on this as well.at my pdoc its ALL electronic, all rx done via etransmission. the only one thats not is controlled substance. i still have to run in to get a physical script for my adderall.

As I recall there was a requirement that all doctors have a certain percentage of their prescriptions generated electronically. I understand the claims that this is more efficient and it certainly takes care of the legibility problem. However I pay cash for my prescriptions and I need to be able to shop around from store to store - something I can't do until I have the prescription. Luckily I had no trouble getting paper prescriptions from the last doctor I saw.
