valium gabapentin derealization

Posted by n_shrimpie on May 17, 2012, at 19:53:14

I've suffered from chronic derealization for the past 2 years, and nothing has helped. This is a defining symptom of my depression and in the past nardil has helped but i can't tolerate the weight gain and insomnia. I've jsut started the emsam 9mg patch, and it hasn't touched my derealization, just made me anxious. my doc prescribed valium to offset the anxiety and shockingly, it seems to have cured my derealization! My head is clear, my mood is good, the numbness is gone, my cognitive faculties returned... It initially makes me tired, but once i wake i feel much more clear headed. could it be because it affects GABA (like nardil did?). I'm afraid to continue with it because it's addictive, so my doctor has prescribed gabapentin as an alternative. has anyone tried it for derealization?

benzos are usally effective and they will allieviate high anxiety that will cause you to feel unreal, sometimes its not anxiety...i had derealization for about a year maybe 2 off and on when I was taking wellbutrin 300mg and Addrerall 40mg XR, but I have to say It seemed more like delirium..I was prescribed clonazepam, and then lorazepam which did bring my mind to normalness...but still I had panic attacks and then I switched to xanax, and that did the trick....a couple weeks ago I smoked cannabis and I litterly thought another entity took over my body...of course that's bullcrap but I did not feel real for several hours.

Gabapentin or how ever you spell it usally will increase the effectiveness of benzos...I don't know how exactly it works but it works to an atvantage to increase the gaba output...but for this paticular case...if you took Nuerontin on its own without valium it would do you good if you took 800mg maybe twice or to four times daily...i tooks this same cocktail and it did work ok...

that's interesting. i feel it actually makes my derealization worse.
just keep an eye on yourself. try it for a few weeks, everyone reacts differently.
i have a girlfriend on it on a regular basis and she needs it. i take it more prn but tends to enhance my dissociative features.
