problems with front desk workers

Posted by poser938 on May 21, 2012, at 18:13:44

so, on my 3rd visit with my psychiatrist i had a bit of a problem. myself and my family didnt have all the funds to pay for the appointment. and my mom had been given a paper at my last appointment at our last appointment saying to let them know if we need help paying for appointments.. so we went for my visit and when we got there and asked them about it.. it turned out to be no help at all and they said i couldnt see the doctor that day. anyways... i have been desperate lately and i got upset and i said i was going to go home and hurt myself. i was yelling... and then we went out to the car to leave. just before i started the car the lady at the front desk ran out to tell me i could see the doctor andyway.. and my we paid $50 of the whole $120 payment. they said if i want to schedule another appointment then i will have to pay the rest of the $120.

so, today i drove up there to pay the rest of the bill and to schedule another appointment. i was just about to hand the lady the payment when a lady from the back comes up and says that Dr. Robertson wont be seeing me anymore. i calmly said okay, can i ask why? and the lady said "it's just his discretion". i calmly said okay and left. i then spoke with my pharmacist whom is friends with DR. Robertson and he decided to call Robertsons office to see what was up. it turns out it wasn't Dr. Robertsons decision at all to not see me anymore. he didn't even know about the situation and he vaguely recalled which patient i was when my pharmacist mentioned me to him. it turns out that it was one of the front desk ladies that has a problem with me and is lying to me when she told me that it is the doctors discretion to not be seeing me anymore. yeah, im pretty pissed about it.
now i'm going to either have to wait until my pharmacist has a lunch meeting with my doctor in 3 weeks before i can schedule an appointment, or i have to sweet talk the front desk lady because she wants to hold a grudge. this is so ridiculous and immature.

Does the doc have an email address or website you could contact him directly on? Could you call and request talking to doc or your Mother? Just a thought. Phillipa

no. every psychiatrist i've ever been to, you have to talk to him with a message through the nurse. i suppose i could talk to that pharmacist a bit more and seee if he can work something more out over the phone with that psychiatrist. i just dont understand why someone working in healthcare would be so immature. *sigh*

Odd. My p-doc does all his own administrative work. This is a throwback to the days when p-docs routinely did their own billing and scheduling so as not to compromise anonymity.

I'm so sorry you had this experience. Something similar happened with me with my last pdoc - he had a wall of administration and phone menus before you could leave a message with him. When I had trouble getting my insurance to cover the AD he'd prescribed (Viibryd, which ended up being useless), I got worse than the run-around from his staff - I was stonewalled. Again, like you, I was discharged from the practice, never having spoken with the doctor. My therapist tried to intervene and when she got to talk to him, he became VERY cagey. When he wouldn't give up any details about what had happened, she told him that she was only able to do therapy with one person, and that was me. And then she found me another doctor. Better. Closer. And one without a front desk running interference.
Find another doctor with a smaller, more intimate practice. You are not seeking treatment from the front desk person...

meh. it turns out it was the doctors decision. my pharmacist said it seemed to that the problem was with the staff and not dr. robertson. but i went to talk to them again today and they assured me it was robertsons decision. it just didnt make sense because my pharmacist was also talking to robertson about my treatment plan, and what i was going to be trying next.

and with the ketamine, i have gotten no benefit from it. all it has done for me is make me a bit dizzy for about an hour.
