zyprexa withdrawal .325mg would I still feel it

Posted by BobS. on April 4, 2012, at 13:57:19

I have been slowly reducing my Zyprexa dosage and have been at .325 mgs for two weeks. Does anyone know if I am still feeling it. My schedule is to stop all in two weeks. Will I feel that discontinuation?

Thanks for your help.

i have never had bad effect from withdrawl from zyprexa, except maybe once but think more an issue that i had very severe (psychotic features) with depression and i was on 10 at the time.

i normally stop zyprexa from 5, do every other day for about a week then stop. have had no troubles but everyone is different. if anything i would expect some mood lability, maybe some lack of appetite and maybe some difficulty sleeping.

wish you luck.

forgot to say i would go from 10 to 5 for one week, then every other day for a week. some people then go every two days for one week. then stop.
i've heard others say they cut it in half for about a week.
i would say lower dose not more than one week at a time to allow your body adjustment.

I would think it would be like any other med. Is there a reason you are stopping? Phillipa

I've done the same thing you are doing now. 3 months to get off of 8 years of zyprexa. My best suggestion would be to continue whittling the dose even smaller, all the way up to the last day. In the end my last dose was just basically some dust. Will you still feel some withdrawals after the final dose? Well, I did. Not too bad, but yes. They kicked in about 3 days after the final dose. But because of the long weaning process and the tiny doses in the final stretch, withdrawals were tolerable. They were mostly some mild nausea, mild sleep issues, and some waves of butterflies in the stomach (anxiety). That stuff was gone in about a month. I think at one point I took a little bit more zyprexa dust for one day just to interrupt the withdrawals but then that was it.

Anyway, .325mg is low but not low enough. Just keep getting it lower.

I think any dose of zyprexa is enough to feel it. So going from .3mg to nothing might have an effect. I agree with bleuberry.

Thanks for your help. It's amazing that 0.325 mg still impacts the brain. Did you try crushing it and putting the dust in water and then drink half of the water?

Zyprexa withdrawal for me was terrible. Took me a year to get off it. The slower the better.

Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.
But I would wish it on any psychiatrist/doctor that prescribes it.

You answered me in a previous message, which I greatly appreciated. Now I have another question. I am off Zyprexa for 4 weeks, yet I experience severe nausea and anxiety. Does this relent and how long does is take? OR is this underlying symptoms coming back? Rebound.
Tx for your help. Regards.

Hi Bobs,

I dont know you so can't answer for you but I was still feeling effects of coming of Zyp for 6 months. The first 6 weeks was by far the worst.

Nausea I would say for sure is zyprexa.
Anxiety, i don't know.

Thanks for your response. I have only been off of it for 6 weeks. Looks like a rough road ahead.
BTW, how long were you on Zyprexa?
I hope you didn't get diabetes or other crap from it. It's a close call but I may have escaped all but weight gain. I was on it for 8 years, mostly low doses.

Hi Bob,

I have metabolic problems from it. Not full blow diabetes but some problems with hyperglycemia sugar levels.

Having said that I am happy with my progress and stopping it was one of the best things I ever did for myself.

I was on it for 4 years I think, on low doses. Everyones mileage seems to vary.

Hope you are doing well.

What kind of symptoms are you experiencing that you attribute to Zyprexa withdrawal? Anxiety? Depression? Other?

Thanks.
