Homeland HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Posted by uncouth on April 10, 2012, at 21:47:10

Just finished watching season1 of one of the best TV shows i've ever seen in my life...Homeland, on Showtime. It stars Claire Danes as a bipolar CIA agent...her illness and how she deals with it is a primary storyline of the season, and it even includes ECT. Amazing compassionate and accurate picture of mental illness, and she is an amazing actress. This is coming from someone who is bipolar 2 and had ECT.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I've seen it too, it's great. But for being on clozapine, she's very thin. She doesn't seem to take any blood tests either :-)

Maybe cause it's TV. Like Grey's Anatomy. After working in a hospital never heard or saw so many affairs going one. Doesn't Patty Duke have a book she wrote on bipolar also? I wonder if that is accurate? Phillipa

Sure, but I wonder who came up with the idea of having her on clozapine. Abilify? Sure. Lithium? NP. :-)

The show is amazing. Watched the entire season one in 2 days. All 12 episodes. Highly recommended.

Question to bipolar folk, does the show portray mania particularly well? Not withstanding the fact that everyone experiences mental illness somewhat differently. As someone with MDD, I thought the way they have shown depression so far to be sensitive and accurate.

I also like how they've been dealing with the interplay between illness and work, perceptions of reality, etc.

I wonder if they have someone in the mental health field advising them. It's unusual for shows to be so on the ball.
