Hi,
I was wondering if anyone recommends Valium over Ativan for anxiety and OCD.
I currently take 2 mg of Valium at night for sleep, and 0.5 mg of Ativan during the day for daytime anxiety. I have been doing this combination for around 6 years.
It would be more convenient for me to replace the Ativan with Valium, and take 2 mg of Valium both at night and in the morning (4 mg total per day).
Any advice would be appreciated.

That's a very low dose of valium. I used to take ativan. Personally with the exception of klonopin they have all been about the same for me. Is your current dosing stadegy working? If so I'd leave it be. I'm impressed by the low doses of benzos you currently take. Phillipa

Are you sure you'd only need an additional 2mgs valium? I thought it'd be an additional 5-10+. Then again, I have 0 medical training.

Higher dose of valium to equal the dose of ativan I think lmg of ativan = 10mg of valium? Phillipa

I don't think you'll notice much difference, though I think 2mgs of valium is not equivalent to .5 mg Ativan. I think it might be a stronger therapy.

Philipa,
Yes I also read 10 mg of Valium = 1 mg of Ativan
So I hope I can get by with 2 mg of Valium to replace 0.5 mg Ativan (and not have to take 5 mg of valium in the morning).
thanks

Please let us know how you do with the Valium. I am very curious to know how it compares to Ativan.

Didn't seem any different to me just needed more. Should have been the opposite as an IM of ativan works so well. Phillipa
