something's up with Valium

Last time I tried Valium, I could have sworn I was having a paradoxical reaction, but my p-doc assured me that a true paradoxical reaction would not involve sedation.

I was re-prescribed it (at 5mg b.i.d.) and didn't notice much (if any) anxiety relief; I would just fall into a kind of coma-like stupor, which was enough to negate the negative aspects of the Parnate stimulation.

Now that I've mostly adjusted to the sedation, I find a dose will actually make me feel rather stimulated. I can't find an exact figure for time-of-onset, but according to Wikipedia, it's "rapid". I highly doubt it's psychological - last night I was feeling extremely calm, then popped 5mg in anticipation for bed and began to feel anxious.

Could it be that the sedation was just masking a paradoxical reaction, or if I'm feeling the anxiety 10-15 minutes after dosing, is it purely a psychological reaction?

I remember an old poster here that also had paradoxical reactions to valium and couldn't take it. So it could be. What's you doc say? Phillipa

Your reaction is psychological. 5 mg is not a high dose and may not be enough for you. This is why you remain anxious. You probably need 10-15 mg to cut through all your anxiety.
