It inhibits serotonin production, acting like a uptake inhibitor at certain sites.

Eric does that mean you would get less serotonin from an SSRI as if so that would be why klonopin depressed me in a day or so. So wouldn't it also mean I need serotonin? Thanks Phillipa

I take it that it means k blocks some serotonin sites, but does it actually lower it? I dont understand why some get depressed and others feel better on k? And also why is an ssri is prescribed along w/k if it blocks the uptake?

>If my memory serves me, clonazepam (Klonopin) inhibits the release of serotonin, thus reducing the concentration of this neurotransmitter in the synaptic cleft. The resulting effects are opposite to that of a SRI.

I know I tapered zoloft, and then feel fine on just the klonopin. Perhaps serotonin was not my issue, but I also felt fine on zoloft/k.But maybe the serotonin enhancing of z was canceled out by k?Sorry, more confusion.I am fascinated by it though.

Yes, Klonopin competes with SSRIs when it comes to serotonin. I wouldn't be surprised if you felt depressed on Klonopin while you took it.
You have OCD. You need serotonin.

really interesting in theory then klonopin really stops one from getting the total serotonin benefit of an ssri and i did read from a dr. that it could cause depression. in doses over 2mg ...interesting

I agree it is fascinating. My pdoc put me on klonopin for ocd with my zoloft as he said there is a synergy. I don't feel that it has been particularly helpful although it does help with the chatter with my ocd and hasn't caused depression for me. He put me onto this study.
