i've never abused drugs before in my life...
i am prescribed 2mg of klonopin for anxiety/sleep. i have been on the rx for over a year. the last 2 months though my dosage, w/out my docs knowledge has been increasing dramatically.
last night/this morning i took 10mg of klonopin over a 12 hour period. im still awake. slightly tired. my sleep patterns are all messed-up again; i take 30mg of remeron w/2 to 3 mg of klonopin at night and will sleep for about 3 hours. then i lay awake and slowly work my way thru increasing amounts of klonopin. w/out falling asleep again until midday or so. then deep sleep for about 4 to 5 hours.
my questions are these;
1. what options are there for me to a. reduce or get-off the klonopin and b. get a full night's sleep. again, my increase in klonopin has only been the past 2 months. yesterday i took 3mg and felt/slept exactly the same as when i take 6 or more mg.
2. i am thinking of going in-patient again. wondering if i should also add detox. i have very good insurance and my depression has been extremely bad in addition to the klonopin issue. i'm mostly taking the klonopin for sleep. my anxiety is pretty much gone of course. curious what it will feel like to come down/off the klonopin.
3. seroquel? good choice for short term to get off the k?
4. any other recommendations?
5, weed. i still have the prescription from a few months ago and the one area that it did help was with my sleep and it reduced my klonopin usage. the only issue was that i was really wasted when i would get up at night to go pee. maybe try this route again w/weaker strains?
as usual, thanks for any replies.

technically speaking, increasing the dose w.o. the docs permission is abusing the medication.
If its not working at the prescribed dose, let the doctor know. WTF is increasing the dose beyond the prescribed amount going to do...other than convince your doctor that you are abusing it?
A doctor will understand if a previously effective dose is not working for the intended purpose.

but to answer your question.
try 3-9mg of melatonin with remeron.
I found that 3mg of melatonin with a the tinyest dose of remeron worked for insomnia when nothing else did.

You mention increasing depression klonopin for a few days left me feeling suicidal and wasn't? As soon as went back per pdoc to xanax. Feeling went away and was fine. Could it be the med itself? Phillipa

50mg of Benadryl(diphenhydramine hydrochloride) with .5mg of clonazepam works for my Nardil induced insomnia. I have always been very sensitive to the medications that affect the histamine receptors. Even after years of almost daily use it still knocks me out. Not everyone responds this way to the older antihistamines. Some people will get wired on them. But, I have never seemed to develop tolerance to the drowsiness side effect. The only problem I've had is rebound insomnia if I go off the Benadryl.
Be well,

I second the melatonin. It's always worked for me, esp for med-induced insomnia. I also recommend around 9mg, and you can always try the sublingual pills, I think they work faster.

John, if you are taking remeron mainly to make you sleep you might want to try a lower dose. At lower than 30 mg you'll get less of a norepinephrine/energizing effect. 15 mg of remeron knocked me out, 45 mg gives me insomnia.
I also try to take it no more than an hour before I want to sleep.

That's exactly how I got physically addicted to Klonopin, which was a bad thing on many levels. After 7 years, I finally went cold turkey, which I DO NOT recommend. It was hell. I recommend adding detox to your plans. For some very good info on benzos, check this site out:

In reply to thnx everyone else too for your advice. (nm), posted by JohnLA on March 27, 2012, at 14:23:28
I recommend Doxylamine, Melatonin, Ashwagandha. On bad nights I take all 3. I have tried everything for sleep, prescription and non. Doxylamine beats them all.
