finding an apartment

I need to move out of home, if possible. I finally (after 2 years waiting) qualify for income support. I am relatively well-socialized .. I mean, unless in the midst of severe depression, or adversely medicated, I can be funny, pleasant etc. However, that facade is becoming difficult to maintain, and, extrapolating based on the past two years, it's likely that I may end up spending time bed-ridden etc.

I couldn't afford to live alone, but I think it would be far too much pressure to try and play 'normal' for strangers. I need privacy and space to finally attempt to work on my OCD.

I'm not sure the best way to go about this. I mean, I don't want to go and live in a residence for the mentally ill or anything like that. There's a craigslist-type service here and I was thinking about placing an ad being relatively open about my situation, but would that just scare people off?

Disclosure will scare off those people who are least likely to be good roommates for you. Emphasize your good points.

Some states have open positions for Section 8 rental subsidies.

You know, if there is any place you don't have to hide your more colorful side, it's craigslist (I know you're not using CL, but same principle.

I agree with Scott; anyone who is scared off by what you write isn't the right person. You should tell the truth, just like you did here, and there will be someone out there like you who understands.
