Shouldnt i be feeling something from BUrspar yet?
its not even 8am and my anxiety is already very high.i know its supposed to take a week or so but i was hoping i'd feel Something to know that it was going to work.
comments on those that have tried it, how long before it took effect for you and did it just taper down anxiety? other effects you noticed?
thanks

no exercise. i woke up about 4:30 with severe leg cramps. it was sore all morning. (i usually would have woken up at 5 to do exercise).
so i opted to sleep more.i know...but i'm going tomorrow for sure And sat. and my niece wants to go with me on sunday. so we'll see how that goes.
thanks Phillipa.

I noticed *something* from it, but not very much and I would be hard pressed to describe what.
Maybe it made me feel a little flat? I was habituated to benzos at the time.

I wish I could add some info. I haven't tried it. Maybe it will be like a bass note, like you said, slowly tapering down anxiety. I think it's more difficult to register changes in anxiety levels right away when one is used to benzos. Darn it. I'm pulling for you.

i guess i was hoping for a response as im not really taking benzo's.
i was taking xanax for sleep but it makes me so groggy both in morning (when i take it at night) and during the day which is why i was switched to gabapentin.
for a while gabapentin was working. but then i was having to take more and more. and now it rarely works for the level of anxiety i have.i have noticed i am eating more. but i'm also taking more gabapentin.
i feel a little more ....ok. not really blah but just 'less' than i normally am.
but it could be that i'm calming a bit more.thanks for any input.

B2c, I just happened to read somewhere that buspar takes awhile to really kick in. Idk if this is true. Thought I'd pass it along....

Did I read that sometimes it's referred to as some sort of ap? I only took 5mg so your dose it more likely to help Phillipa

yes. it started out being tested as an ap but it was so weak (or there along the lines) that they formed it into an antianxiety med instead.
apparently it doesnt seem to work well for many.
**********************
its one week later and i'm noticing a very slight difference.
my anxiety is still high but i notice i'm not having to take near the gabapentin i was before. and what i do take actually helps some.so we'll see if this is a start up experience or what. i guess i'll add it to my workup as long as it works. and when it poops out i'll just go on another hunt. or just suck it up and take zyprexa. (which is what i should probably do anyway).
the bad part is i'm tired a LOT more than before. i assume this is a side effect. but saturday i slept in, then later took a 3.5 hour nap AND went to bed at 8:30. not the best with two little ones around. Hubby bitched alot, but he did at least lest me sleep.
we'll see.

I took 90mg of Buspar and found it very helpful. It did cause weight gain though so I have dropped down.

So was I Phillipa I gained 25 pounds! I think it was the high dosing though as I am down at 45mg now and I am not having any problems. My pdoc said it was rare but Buspar can cause it.

Buspar is a weak anxiolytic. It might just take the edge off.

Yes. Despite its reputation as being "weak", it can afford some people substantial relief of anxiety. However, it can take Buspar a few weeks to work, much like an antidepressant.

feel. ok.
i am taking 15mg TID
i tend to feel better anxiety wise, down to a low roar that gabapentin can fill in the blanks and stop it for most of the day.
however, i am feeling more run down when on it. still have a little depressive feelings as well, but only minor compared to what i've felt before. and have some constipation too. that's no fun.i think i'll keep it another month and once things calm down a little in my life then i can taper off it. normally when sun shining and nice weather helps. plus can walk outside more.
but for now i'll keep it going. i left a note for my pdoc last friday to see if i can go down a little due to lethargy and low mood but i haven't heard back.
******************
the biggest stress now in my life...and feel free to stop reading here as i just have to get this off my chest somewhere and to someone.
My oldest daughter (5 years) has been dx with severe nut allergy. we went back in to get her retested monday for her pre-Kindergarten check and she had quite a severe reaction inhis office. she ended up breaking out not only on the spots he tested but broke out in large hives all over her back. also three of her vertebra swelled up as it leaked on that area. Then after that
went down (after benadryl) Tuesday she broke out again on her back this time it looked more like prickly heat rash but it covered her back. i called doc and they FINALLY called me back wed. and she is now on zyrtec for 5 days....The severity of her reaction in the doc office has scared the sh&t out of me. I broke down that night in the bathroom by myself.
She is such a gentle soul, so intelligent, so gentle, so compassionate of others. i am SO f-ing scared for her.
and yes i get that part of this is me exaccerbating my anxiety, but its real. and the reality hit me when i saw that reaction. Even the doctor was surprised and concerned as he moved quickly as soon as he saw her back to check other parts of her and to get her benadryl.Anyway. i have to honestly just set that aside right now.
The strange thing is that a girl i worked with was pregnant the same time as me. mine born in jan and hers born in july. both have severe nut allergies. however she now lives in another state and i only hear from her once in a while. i wish i knew personally other mom's that deal with this...i feel like she goes through so much. she never cries at her doc appt. she always gets poked and proded. she has asthma and allergies, she's already had her first er visit with the flu. vomiting wouldn't stop so she had to have IV fluids. never cried, never moved during whole thing. She had to have one of her front teeth extracted a couple months ago due to an accident at daycare a year and half ago.
she's amazing and she's only 5.I cant even explain how much i love her and how hurt i feel for her to have to go through these things. now i really know what people mean when they tell someone that they wish they could go through it for them. with all my might i would take it on in a heart beat!
ok. so there are my guts for the day. just spilled out.
thank you and now i'm going to go lock my door as i start to cry.b2c.

B2c, I am sorry you and your daughter have such a challenge ahead. There are online advocacy groups that can actually be helpful. I have a friend who found some on facebook for her autistic son. There are more and more resources for parents facing challenges, so I am hoping very soon you will not be facing this alone.
(((hugs)))
