Is it possible that motrin ibuphrophen could help with depression by decreasing brain inflammation? Far fetched I think but isn't anything possible? Phillipa

It makes sense to me that if things inside the brain are inflamed it isn't going to feel good and would probably manifest itself to the outside in some form of depression, brain fog, fatigue, or all of them. Things just don't work right when they are swollen.
I've had mild improvement sometimes by taking advil. It was an unexpected side effect when dealing with a headache or body ache.

I have wondered about this as well.Doesnt exercise lower inflammation? Are there other natural ways to lower it? I thought Id read that there are diets you can follow that do it.I was thinking of starting low dose aspirin, but I want to ask my doctor about it.Sam-e might be an option to lower it as well.

I would think that SAMe and omega-3 would be good for longer term use. The NSAID's are not the best to use long term (ibuprofen has some cardiac risks apparently).
many of the antidepressants (i.e. citalopram and venlafaxine) exhibit antinflamitory effects.
Lithium shows this property as well.Linkadge

Why contradicted? I take ibuprofen with lithium all the time.

I have had a few instances where both advil and aspirin caused prompt relief from intense emotional pain.

The answer is yes. Not far fetched at all. Can it be a stand-alone treatment? I doubt it. We need to get rid of the cause of the inflammation to do that. That narrows the suspects down to either toxins or pathogenic microbials or both.
