Luvox was never approved by the FDA for the treatment of depression. I imagine this contributes to its lack of use.
My impression is that Luvox doesn't help as many people with depression as does Lexapro or Zoloft. I never tried Luvox, but I believe it can be sedating more often than the other SSRIs.

Strangely in the beginning with the regular luvox at a dose of 250mg it was very energizing for me even with xanax then. But it never ever caused a single side effect. I clearly remember waiting for a side effect and none. And each day dose was raised by 50mg. Oops it was ativan I took with it then. Chemistry changes and no longer could take the high dose but still years later on the 50mg and added 5mg of lexapro now. First two days of the raised lexapro felt better day three back to pre 5mg. Still low dose benzos. But it's sedating good for anxiety disorders. Was approved for OCD. Phillipa
