I accidentially took too much Effexor in July, and ever since, I have been unable to have an erection or even have sexual arousal/interest. I ordered some memantine, in the hopes of getting its increased libido side effect, but in the meantime am curious if Wellbutrin would be much hope for me. I'm already on Dexedrine, so my hope is that Wellbutrin treats sexual dysfunction by doing more than simply increase dopamine-- might I be right? Any other med strategies? Pramipexole? anything to repair me?
My testosterone results came back-- mid-normal, perfect. Memantine up-regulates D2 receptors, so my hope is it will repair the damage done from taking 1000mg of Effexor once... thoughts?

i dont know much about memantine, but i know that wellbutrin and mirapex both could be good choices. as you probably know, wellbutrin does increase libido for alot of people, but in my experience it actually made mine worse. i think it was the increase in norepinephrine that caused the problem for me. i also took mirapex about 2 years ago and it worked very well for my sexual sensitivity with no effect on my mood. it helped for about a month and then all the sudden had the opposite effect on my libido and made my mood very bad. i believe it caused something called "dopamine dysregulation syndrome" for me. this effect is rare, but it is possible.

maybe that's what effexor gave me, dopamine dysregulation syndrome? what do you take for it now? has anything worked?

well, i was in a coma when i was 13 and that might be why i react to meds so weirdly. i know of one other person that mirapex did this to. have you not gotten any better since you have been off effexor?
i think the effexor basically raised your serotonin or norepinephrine too much. and i know that when a med increases serotonin in your brain, this causes a decrease in dopamine. a med like wellbutrin or mirapex may be just what you need. or if your doc is willing to prescribe an MAOI, i would try selegiline if one of those doesnt work for you.
but i will tell you, the only med that has ever done anything good for my emotions and libido is cyproheptadine. it is not even a psychiatric med, but it is an antagonist at serotonin receptors and i believe that it is the 5HTC antagonism that has the good effect on me. i read that when that receptor is blocked off, it causes your brain to release more dopamine in response to normally pleasurable things. i think it is great, unlike normal dopamine increasing meds because those meds force your brain to increase dopamine, which for some people, can have a bad affect after taking it long term.it seems, with me, when i take a med and it has its effect on my brain, it doesnt see the need to go back to normal after stopping it.

Viagra or Cialis and Wellbutrin would be a good bet.

> EricMy doc won't prescribe Cialis because he claims it's psychologically addictive. (I've noticed docs who accept Medicare like to reserve their prudent wisdom on things like this and benzos strictly for the poor-- when I was paying $300 a session, I somehow happened to have Cialis and Klonopin, and now that I'm on medicare, I don't. Funny that...
