Hey folks...
Actually I just have a general question about Vyvanse and one about stimulants in general. It's weird but out of all/any medication...amphetamines have only ever been the consistent..reliable drug that doesn't give me next to any side-effects. I have taken up to 3 anti-d's at a time and most on the market..loads of anti-psychotics...mood stabalizers (depakote/epival nearly killed me) over a twenty year period. Benzo's helped only when in severe crisis. I was reading some casual research...just compiled opinions of numerous p-docs...and stimulants came in as the most reliable and consistent medication. That being said...it is also a bit weird I responded to amphetamine very very well...but Ritalin was *horrible* for me...just made me feel speedy and angry. I've read of people doing great on one and not the other.
So...my other question (which I sort-of got the answer on but was curious what people here have experienced) is if anyone is on Vyvanse 2x a day? I was just on 50mg 1x a day...but went to 30mg 2x a day...and even though it effects my sleep (inability to fall asleep often) the total effects are quite something else. It is definately NOT mania...or even hypomania...but what I felt like before I got diagnosed 20+ years ago. I also find that limiting my sleep (even just every second day) to seven hours keeps my depression way far away.
It saddens me that stimulants have such a stigma around them...and that in some parts of the world...where they have total anti-drug paranoia (but the two worst drugs..cigs and alcohol..flow freely) these great meds are often withheld making people suffer for no good reason.
Would like to know others supportive experiences/thoughts.

Well, all of the stimulants lead to a bad ending with me, but Ritalin is one of my few standby emergency meds. It works and it works fast. I just can't take it every day. But I'm glad it's there when I really need a rescue.
Funny how you said people respond differently to different stimulants, because Adderall makes me very depressed and I can't wait for it to wear off.
I think medicine went off in the wrong direction when all the focus went to reuptake inhibition of serotonin. Those certainly have their place, but in my opinion they do not in any way qualify as adequate, first line, or reliable.

It depends on the person and how they react. Vyvanse is a prodrug of dextroamphetamine. It lasts longer in the body than regular dex. I used to be on 2 70ng twice daily. After that I went to Dexedrine Spansules 60mg spaced out through the day. They both produced psyhomotor stimulation, increased motivation, active behavior patterns, and much weight loss.
It all depends on how you talk to your doctor about your symptoms and if they are willing to try anything. I have ran across doctors that are not willing to treat some conditions and you have to find another, or reword the way you tell them of your distress.

I hope you don't take this personally, as I mean well by it, but your writing sounds extremely hurried. Perhaps the dose could be decreased a little without losing the therapeutic effects?
Hyper-focusing is a sign of toxicity, and can lead to neuronal death, causing cognition difficulties over time. One needn't find any benefit from being on one mg more than what works.
Most people who take higher doses do so because they have unrealistic expectations for the drug, which lead them to rely on high doses rather than contend with the practical reality that it's not intended to make one a super hero and make tedious work fascinating. If it does that, you're on too much.

I have taken many different stimulants to help my depression. Vyvanse in particular works very well and eliminates all my depressive symptoms, but after 7 hours I crash and become extremely depressed.
I know your feeling about stims getting a bad wrap. Sometimes they really are the best possible choice. Just make sure you watch for big swings in mood. If I didn't have those mood swings, Vyvanse would be my ticket.
