Its been a while since I took my last Abilify. I feel great. Not "manic" great, just...human. I can think more clearly. My eyes are brighter. The thoughts that the neuroleptic were holding back about my painful past, especially the abuse I received at the hands of many "mental health professionals." I can hanle it though. Its cool.
I don't want to sound all angry and anti-psychiatry, but there's a lot of abusive BS that goes on in the name of "mental health," and I think I'm just about done. I've said this before, I know; I guess we'll just have to see how this goes. I'm praying for the strength to just carry on without the (surprisingly dulling) tranquilizer. I hate being drugged up into docility, patted on the head, and being told "good patient. Now take your pills every single day."
My brain is fried all to hell anyway, so I figure that by now, whatever could have been done, has been done. Time to cut the BS and just live. Unfortunately, I'll still have to play the mental patient game--keep up with appointments so I can stay in vocational rehab. Oh well. At least this way the system will be working for me, not against me.

CE I'm a bit worried about you as last time you stopped the abilify it didn't work out. Hope it does this time and stick with the vocational rehab Phillipa

I think it would be great if you can stay off Abilify for the long term. Do you think getting some protection from something, maybe lithium or depakote, might be a good idea in the future? How about what I believe to be fairly uninvasive SSRIs?
Do you have any plans to see a therapist that does more and is more qualified than the one you have been seeing?
Are you going to use any supplements(wait, I remember you already do)? How about lithium orotate? It's pretty much the same as taking lithium carbonate-you'd just be as well off taking a low dose of the carbonate, say 300 to 600 mg. There is much potential for neuroprotection with lithium. If you are worried about your brain being fried, you can protect it from getting fried any more as a result of further insults from major episodes by taking something like lithium or depakote as a preventative measure and neuroprotector.
I realize you are saying your brain has been fried from the Abilify, but your brain has also likely been fried some by the major episodes you have endured.
Do you have plans to get into a regular exercise routine? I believe fairly intense exercise followed by a thorough meditative stretch is the way to go. You can find a way to relax and breath properly while exerting quite a bit of energy, in order to fully benefit from exercise. I find it necessary to breath through the nose some in order to get the brain health/"feel good" benefits. Some make the mistake of breathing through their mouth too much. I often start with my mouth and transition through my nose in one breath. Sometimes, I end up doing mostly nose breathing during my 15 to 20 min moderate to intense cardiovascular routine.
Hope everything works out for you CE..
