Right now the only meds I have been taking for several months (maybe most of the year?) are 80mg of Geodon at night and 40mg of Geodon in the morning. 1mg Klonopin as needed (usually about 3mg a day).
At first Geodon made me very sleepy and even now the 40mg in the morning makes me kind of flat - no motivation.
The serious problem I am having now is the opposite of when I started taking Geodon. It no longer makes me sleepy and I have terrible insomnia.
I don't know what to do. I like the non-weight gain effect of Geodon and how it has stabilized my mood, but I really, really need sleep.
Seroquel was great for sleep but made me irritable during the day.
Would switching to Seroquel at night for sleep and and extended version during the day be an alternative? Would I be sleepy all the time then?
If 120mg of Geodon works to stabilize my mood, what dosage of Seroquel would I take. I used to take 50mg and it knocked me out for the night. But then I would need something during the day for my serious irritability and stability.
No weight gain drugs either.
Help! Need sleep! Have exhausted melatonin.

Benzos switched on me and now just make me to tired and used to provide energy? Why no idea? And just when you think you have it all covered. Sorry. Insomnia is horrible. Phillipa

What about taking the bulk of your geodon in the morning, for starters, and possibly you could try, for the insomnia, a pseudo benzo like lunesta or ambien, or extra klonopin at night? If the insomnia is only induced by the geodon then maybe the switch in dosage times will do it.
I had terrible insomnia for years and ambien and lunesta worked for me for awhile, but only Xanax has fixed it long term. luckily that has worked for me for several years. If your klonopin makes you sleepy that might do it.

Perphenazine is good for sleep and has not weight gain. Doesn't lose its effectiveness over time. It has a short enough half life that you could probably not feel tired in the morning. I suggest taking that as an add on to the geodon you already take. Maybe it will work better when you are getting enough sleep. I know I don't function well if I don't get enough sleep.

Maybe you need to get off the Geodon. It seems to cause you problems.
Seroquel XR isn't going to be all that different from Seroquel. You might still feel sedate during the day. I think you're relying to heavily on your AAPs to provide sleep relief when they are not sleep aids.
120 mg of Geodon is equivalent to 300-400 mg of Seroquel.
Here's a list of drugs that promote sleep:
Rozerem
Clonidine
Gabitril
Cyproheptadine
Atarax
Oxezepam
Restoril
Lunesta
AmbienEric

I also have been suffering from some depression for about 6 weeks. The Geodon isn't helping with that anymore.
I am wondering about adding in 10mg of Prozac to the mix. In the past it seemed that an antidepressant helped me with sleep.
Maybe my brain chemicals are off and I need more serotonin for sleep and depression?

>Hi , I used to take Geodon, and while it did help with manic/mixed, it did NOTHING for my depression. If depression is a significant symptom, you might consider an AD or Lamictal?

I was thinking of adding in a low dose of prozac to help with the depression and sleep. It seemed in the past that an SSRI helped with my sleep.
