work

I'm 55 years old and I'm having a difficult time working. I work in a high speed factory and the stress I'm experiencing is unbearable. I don't do well being home alone either. I've been taking voluntary layoffs but they're coming to an end.
I also have the stress of lost wages. I don't know if my Dr will support an ssdi case as this is the only way I could afford to go. I have gad and bp1. Any insights?
Mark

Do you have a pdoc that might help you get SSID? Surprisingly my neighbor just received it and she's very high functioning teacher. Now not working for a year her pdoc got the SSDI for her. You can still earn up to either 700-800 a month if you get it. Phillipa

I have pretty bad problems with stress too. I tried dealing with it in many different ways but my health has still suffered now I probably have chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia as a consequence of being stressed out so long.
I would ask your doc about medications to help deal with stress before I looked into SSDI. And the medication trials would only help your case if you decided to do it later.
There are some plant extracts that are recommended for stress that have given me a small boost. Rhodiola rosea, kava kava and holy basil.

How are you currently treating your GAD/BP?

I'm taking tegretol and nac for BP and a beta blocker for anxiety. Not working. Benzos depress me so don't know what to do.

Beta blockers aren't really designed to treat anxiety.

There are some good alternatives to benzos:

Lyrica
Gabapentin
Gabitril
Prazosin

All of those medications have been studied for their efficacy in treating anxiety. Most also help with mood, too.

I've been on all of them. Lyrica and Prazosin were my fav.

Don't realy know what to tell you, other than maybe a sedating med, not realy sure which kind, zyprexa and perphenazine seem to work for me. Or maybe something stimulating for the high speed aspect of your job. I take bupropion. Or maybe you just need a new job? Something different. Maybe even a brake from work if you can. I recently did all of the above, and now on SSDI. Working part time and on a better set of meds. All the med changes before that kind of set it all off.
