I've only been on it for 4-1/2 weeks. Can I cut down pretty quickly?
Thanks!

I'm not sure about the exact circumstances, but generally speaking 4 1/2 weeks is not enough to assess its efficacy. 6 to 8 weeks is the minimal timeframe for that. I know it sucks, but that's what it is.
I wouldn't go off of it so early, unless of course there are circumstances warranting it, such as intolerable side effects.

The side effects are pretty bothersome with a buzzed feeling in the head and irritable and moody a lot of the time. Constipation is horrible (worse than with Nortriptyline) and no real improvement in mood.
I thought about cutting down to 75mg. a day and see how I do on that but 100 is definitely a no go for me.
Thanks!

Hey laney,
6 to 8 weeks is generally accepted as the necessary timeframe for an antidepressant trial.
The last time I read it was a couple of days ago in an abstract of a Journal of Clinical Psychiatry article. I'll post a link as soon as I find it.

I can't answer your question because I haven't seen too many stories written about it. I had no trouble discontinuing Savella after 6 weeks, but I tend to taper drugs by "feel". You can either cross-taper with another serotonergic drug or experiment with a rapid-taper and slow down if you begin to experience withdrawal symptoms. I think I had less trouble with Savella than I did with Effexor.Withdrawal symptoms may develop after being on an antidepressant for only 3 weeks.

Sorry it didn't help you. I didn't have much trouble getting off it. Certainly a ton easier than all the other meds anyway, for me. I think I had maybe 3 days or so of that weird post=antidepressant stuff...fogginess, anxiety, nausea, etc...but it wasn't too strong and went away fast.
This is the end of the thread.
