Hi all,
I was wondering if someone could help me out here, my pdoc drug tests me each time I visit him and the last test I did it came back positive for Methamphetamine which I have not touched!
I am currently taking:
Parnate 40mg
Abilify 20mg
Propranolol 160mgPlus I have been taking some phenylethylamine on occasions.
Could any of those cause a false positive?

I think Parnate might be partly metabolized to a small amount of some sort of amphetamine. I may have it confused with another MAOI though.
If it is the Parnate, your shrink should probably chill out. Can you get another doctor? Being drug tested each and every time you visit a shrink must be expensive. Also, it seems like a major invasion of your privacy.

Parnate does not seem to produce amphetamines as metabolites. I wonder if the parent molecule would show up in a screening, since its structure is quite close to amphetamine.

Actually, I think selegiline yields amphetamines as metabolites.

Pretty sure that is a metabolite of the MAOI. Your doc should know this. I would counter the accusation by asking why theyre not aware of how a medication they prescribed works.

I'd say that it could be parnate, and it could be phenylethylamine - the lab doing the testing should be able to confirm this either way

My doc tested me again so it will be interesting to see if it shows up again.
The tests don't cost me a cent, they are all paid by the government through medicare, got to love Australias health system!
But still I don't know why I agree to the drug tests, all he can do is to refuse to see me as a patient if I say no.
The reason he tests me is because he has labelled me with having a benzo addiction - I suffer from panic disorder and the only thing that helps when I have a panic attack is benzos, so I might take some Clonazepam from a left over script once or twice a month. If I didn't have panic attacks I would have no desire to take benzos, but aparently not wanting to go through hell is an addiction.

What kind of drug test are you being given? The PEA might do it, but really none of them should. Insist on GC/MS confirmation of all positive results.

Thats what they do at my work chairman - of the piss in the cup test is positive (as it can be, for example mistaking pseudoephedrine for speed, or codeine for heroin) they send it away for a GC test before taking any action
