Why so angry and Thyroid results please interpret

Posted by Uncouth on September 25, 2011, at 11:10:16

Hi,
I feel lime utter sh*t today. My mood tends to change ,sometimes gets better sometimes worse, whenever I go home and spend time with my parents. I'm not working right now so have plenty of time on my hands sadly. I have to spend a few weeks per month at home and rent my apt in sf to help make rent.

Anyway, the thing is mood has gotten much worse over the past 24 hours, I am oversensitive, personalizing everything, angry, resentful, in total sh*t discontented restless irritable mood.

I started two new supplements yesterday. Interestingy the day before I felt pretty serene and connected with my higher power, so shift was just somewhat notable. It could be external life issues, i feel bad everythime I use Facebook and have to see everyone enjoying their lives having fun having kids advancing in career and I am slipping slipping, stuck, ill, anhedonic, broke, jobless, no money, can't find hope or ambition.

Anyway this is rambling but two supplements I started new were a OTC thyroid complex, one of those that actually includes ground up thyroid hormone, do you think that could be cause of irritability? I don't feel exactly energized just really negative, foul mood, and angry and jumpy and despairing. Why such a shift. Like I am typing this on iPad and every word that errors when I type makes me want to throw iPad through the window. I just really hate life now.

Ayway maybe this is result of thyroid complex? Does that have such strong negative and quick effect?

Also, maybe I shouldn't even be taking it. Can someone help Interpret my thyroid numbers, I am 31 year old male bipolar 2
T3 free 2.8
Tsh 1.92
T4 free 1.1

What do see numbers mean? Especially for bipolar diagnosis and current symptoms?

Also other supplement I started was holy basil.

First do you have diagnosed from doc thyroid disorder? As Free T4 and TSH are very good and in the perfect normal range. Free T3 not that sure. But even though been on synthroid for 15 years for thyroid disease it still makes me feel not good like supposed to. Also feel the same about facebook. Seems all are normal there. Phillipa

sounds like a little hypomanic switching to mixed, to me anyhow.
I cant take certain supplements. Fish oil for example, makes me really mixed and irritable.

Holy basil.. I use that also its good for calming that heart thumping, hyperaroused state that I get with PTSD.
Not really sure if it calms other anxiety symptoms. Kava-kava is another thats good.

A TSH of 1.92 is perfect, right in the middle of the spectrum. I belive its something like .5-3.5. You might stop the OTC stuff with Thyroid hormone as it probably is lowering you TSH, which might be affecting your mood. I'm not a doc, just a guess. I would stop it for a few days and see what happens. They actualy make some thyroid meds with ground up pig thyroid gland. So I deffinitly think it could be affecting your thyroid.

Agree if not diagnosed with thyroid problem why are you taking over the counter thyroid supplement? Also the thyroid hormone levels last for a long time as if diagnosed and on prescribed thyroid meds new levels taken 6-8 weeks later. Don't mess with thyroid if it's considered normal by your doc off of any meds? Sorry I interpreted the fact you had levels drawn to mean you knew you had problems with thyroid and this was the levels on rx'd med. Phillipa

Don't know if you've figured things out or not yet, but I found a lot of worth at this web site:
http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/lab-values/

I just had a look at your values. Your results look pretty good actually. I looked at mine, still haven't figured out what's wrong.
Since it looks like those thyroid values are in range, have you had other ranges done? Such as vitamins? Vitamins b12, vitamin d?
I never had an agitated reaction to holy basil, but everyone's different, but if it was me, I would think the OTC thyroid was the culprit! But again, everyone's different. Can you stop the thyroid one, see how you feel, and write back and let us know?
Best of luck!!!
