that sounds very average.
i was given 2mg at night for rough insomnia and anxiety.
but i think the norm is 1mg, as i know that's what i was rx'd in the past.

I think there's a lot of variation amongst doctors. When I started, I was given 1.5mgs/day and bumped up to 2mgs/day rather quickly. When I had to take a benzo again because of a manic episode, I was given 2mgs/day for 3 months, then 1mg/day for 3 months.
I've known people who take low doses strictly as-needed and people who take 3-4mgs/day. 1mg Klonopin=about 20mgs/Valium, so its not a tiny amount, but its certainly no reason to be worried about being overdosed (back when valium was popular, standard doses were 30-40+mgs/day).

CE are you serious? That means in 20's the 5mg three times a day wasn't high. And I always thought it was especially with the mepbrobomate. Wow what a relief to know I wasn't overdosed and the doses have taken for 41 years arent high. Thanks Phillipa

I've taken more. Then was also able to cut back when a crisis was over. I think maybe I maxed at 3mg for brief periods of time.
My current shrink might advise not to sweat that dose.
Are benzos a new medication for you?

No that's not high. I was on 2mg X 3 daily at one time and then I moved to Ativan and Xanax. I just had to realize that it's very addcting but if you truely need the benzodiapine take it. I would just take them to change the way I feel and then when I actaully had anxiety that was horrible my doctor refused to give it to me anymore.
i hate addiction....
best luck to you...

Benzos arnt very effective for OCD, though the Klonopin should be very effective for the anxiety you suffer.
For the OCD you probably need a high dose SSRI

thanx all- do take ssri for ocd 40 mg celexa --maybe go higher and yes i've used ativan for years 1.5 at bedtime .5 in the mid morning ---just seems the ativan gives me a very tired feeling during the day so switched to the 1mg klonopin at nite and 1 mg of klonopin in day so far only take .5 in the day -no tiredness----i was just afraid that 2mg overall might be two high being all the stories you read about klonopin addiction...thanx

My experience with Klonopin was disastrous on several levels, and I recommend EXTREME caution. Here's some excellent info I would recommend:

would you recommend another benzo then ativan -tried tired in the day --zanax too short acting -zanax xr not good- at least klonopin does not make me tired in the day...and doc said if i want i could switch back to my 1.5 ativan at night and .5 in day without any problems--do you guys think this is so---aren't all benzos equally addictive ---my dr. won't just switch for me every month because he knows my personality--like to always change

From my personal experience with, and research about Benzo addiction, I found that withdrawal symptoms (increased anxiety, agitation, etc.) can actually happen BETWEEN doses - yes, in that short a time. For years, I thought that that feeling was just the med wearing off but in fact, I was experiencing withdrawal, which was worse than the anxiety I was taking Klonopin for in the first place. In short, Benzos often become a vicious cycle. After 7 years on that roller coaster, I'm glad to be done with it. Sure, the withdrawal was hell, but necessary.
Of course, you should do what you feel best for you - I'm just sharing my thoughts.
