nardil - when to increase from 45 mg to 60 mg

Posted by Mike_H on July 30, 2011, at 10:42:50

Hello-

I've been on 45 mg for about a month. I didn't notice much difference in depression or anxiety for the first 1.5 weeks. The next week and a half though I felt euphoric and manic--and I thought the Nardil had kicked in. This last week the anxiety and depression have returned and I'm starting to get insomnia. I'd like to increase to 60 mg next week, but I'm afraid that it may affect my insomnia even more. Should I wait until the side-effects go down before increasing?

Sounds like you've been on 45 for long enough. I went through the brief hypomania stage too. You should increase to 60. This med has all kinds of side effects so you have to be patient. Many of them do go away eventually. If you are concerned you can try splitting a tablet and taking 45+7.5. 60 seems to be the minimum dose for many people that begins to improve symptoms.

Did the insomnia go away for you over time?

I had just about every side effect in the book, but insomnia wasn't one of them. I used to have afternoon tiredness/sleepiness, but that passed eventually.
