Hi, I've decided that Parnate isn't going to work for me after being on it for 6 weeks and not showing improvement. I'm now at 100 mg and I've been above 60 for 2 weeks. Does Nardil ever work for people who don't respond to Parnate?

In reply to Parnil not working, will Nardil?, posted by Defective on June 20, 2011, at 20:16:17
They are totaly different drugs, so one might work where the other has failed - only way to find out is to try

Thank you so much, have you had experience with both drugs? Did one work and the other fail in your situation?

Hi Scott, have you used both drugs in the past? Did one fail and the other work in your case?

For me, both drugs were nearly as effective when combined with a tricyclic. However, I find that Nardil produces a "brighter" mood and an improvement in anhedonia. Parnate tends to poop-up on me more so than Nardil. I found Marplan to be less potent than either Nardil or Parnate. Yet, there are people who do better on it. I don't think one can conclude that all three of these MAOIs are equipotent for any one individual. If Parnate fails, Nardil could very well produce a robust improvement and vice-versa.

Thank you, my doctor seems to think that there is no reason to try Nardil if Parnate fails. He also said combining a tricylic with an MAOI is incredibly dangerous and he would be unwilling to risk it. I should probably go to another dr. and ask for a second opinion. You don't happen to know a great psychiatrist in Los Angeles do you?
