Thanks, bearfan.

Hey, may I ask you a few questions? If so...:

How is (or did) the emsam work for you?

I had horrible brain fog on Cymbalta--worse than usual for me.

Does emsam cause that ssri/snri brain fog, too?

Thanks!

FB I just yesterday got an e-mail from an old babbler who started emsam when first out. She continues to do well on it. She's the only one I know still on it I think it was 9mg she ended up sticking with. Love Phillipa

Thanks former poster. I kinda figured that, but my beloved pdoc is veeery conservative.

Good news is that it's been three days since cymbalta, and other than a bit of the wobbles, I'm. O.K.

Thanks for posting, fp.

Good luck with Emsam! I think it is a powerful AD. You are going to need something to help you sleep as I do. I'm thinking about trying a minuscule dose of Remeron at bedtime. Another poster on Emsam was instructed to take the patch off at night. I tried that for the first time last night. I think I noticed a slight difference. I'll let you know how it works.

Thanks. I just asked you this very question replying to another post.

I've heard the word is emsam is a no-go as far as AD effect.

Here's hoping for you!

Fingers crossed,

Emsam is definitely working for me. I don't know how long i can go with only 4-5hrs of light sleep every night? I wonder if I up the dose to the 12mg patch and the serotonin effects kick in, it might help me sleep? Any experiences out there?

Thanks Phillipa. I'm kind of reluctant to add more Klonopin to my regime because I've been on it for decades. I might take a quarter tablet (7.5mg) of Remeron to knock me out tonight.

Fb! I haven't been around in so long because it felt like my life was falling apart, so depressed. So sorry for not writing sooner. Will write more soon, but wanted to let you know I am starting Emsam tomorrow. I'm very nervous because I had an allergic reaction to selegiline, but my doc thinks since emsam is transdermal, maybe it will still work. We'll see. I hope so much you are doing great on it. (Will write more soon!!!) Hope to hear soon how you're doing!
Best to you! Cydnie

Cyndie so you like the emsam which dose? No rashes? sleeping at night? Always have loved the idea of a patch. Take it off if a problem. I know the med still in system then but psychologically you feel it's gone. Phillipa

I just stopped using it already! My autoimmune disorder flared up (just like it did on selegiline, which was so much better for me, by the way). I was doing great at first on 2 hrs. of the patch, had one LENs treatment, had my usual reaction where my ears begin to burn, and then get irritated, but this time they burned, and I became rageful. The next morning I was okay, but scared. My pdoc told me to wear it 6 hrs. from then on and I did, and in 2 days, by the next day I was nuts, crazy. I took it off Saturday, haven't put it back on since (it's mon morn.) I still feel cranky. I asked him, since it was so similar to my wellbutrin rageful feeling, what it could be raising the most, but he didn't know, but says it does increase norephinephrine or dopamine and says it was just too much of a good thing for me. I would love to find out what emsam and wellbutrin raise the most if possible, maybe then I could tell what was too much for me (I know a lot of people are irritable on wellbutrin, but I don't know why! I told my pdoc it was common and he told me, "No it isn't!") So I had a bad reaction to the 6mg patch 6hrs. a day, but a great reaction to taking the low dose selegiline pills (until it interfered with my autoimmune pain disorder). Anyway, hopefully that will help someone make some decisions! Our chemistries are different, but if we can go through something painful and help someone else, it's not for nothing!

Hey Cydnie,

Wow. That sounds really awful. I'm really sorry. This past week to 10 days, I become 'rageful', too. Blindsided, completely, with only, maybe a minute to prepare. I find it very frightening.

Maybe tomorrow is (was!) the day for me to slap the first ensam patch on--but I
don't want to EVEN if pdoc assents. But
HE'S scared, too. He's pushing for hospitalization. I was in one once (for weeping non-stop, not raging), and it was an adverse event unless you factor in that I stopped crying asap so they'd let me home.

I might be able to tolerate Wellbutrin for awhile--since it is shorter acting.

What's LENS treatment?

Sorry it's so rough right now.

Hey FB! I had the same reactions from emsam and wellbutrin, could not take wellbutrin again. If you can take wellbutrin without rage, maybe emsam would work for you? I liked selegiline so much more, low doses of it, and I felt so much happier, no rage at all! It was awesome, it's emsam, but in pill form. I did so well on that. I'd go back on that if I could, but it made my autimmune pain so much worse, I couldn't take it. So today he started me on abilify, I am so anxious, I wonder if anyone else gets anxious on this, I guess I'll search. Then I start remeron tonight, this sucks so much. If I could take the selegiline, I totally would, it was so much better than the patch, I wonder if it would work for you. (LENs treatment is neurofeedback, but even though it's supposed to be really gentle, I have had a reaction each time I've gone. I don't want to do it anymore, but was so scared to tell the guy last time I didn't want to do it, he was so gungho about it. I went to sh*t that night and never got better!) Let me know what you end up doing, I would love to hear what you try. Selegiline was so good for me (lower dose than the emsam patch) and I felt actually happy for the 1st time in so long, now I just want to crawl up in a ball and cry. So hard. Good luck!!!

Cr*p. I'm sorry.

Hmmm. I'll think about it for you. Segeline good for your mood, but not for autoimmune. (Pretty sure it was dex that wrecked my AI. Great for mood--broke depression.)

Washout for what?

Good luck w/ abilify. Helped me out once, really. Couldn't tolerate raising the dose. But imo an infinitesimal amount can do much good.

One week on wellbutrin put me in the hospital as anxiety led the pdoc to think I was hypomanic. So taken off it and lots of benzos at the time even remeron at 15mg nothing. Stopped it after a month no withdrawal. If you are entering peri menopausal or menopause that can cause autoimmune thyroiditis as this is when it got me. And this for me was horrible. Phillipa

Hi Phillipa,

How has the pain level been today?

Thanks for the heads' up on thyroiditis. :( You & my pdoc must be sharing a wavelength. He demanded I see an endocrinologist today. He was appalled no one has checked my hormone levels. Yet, whenever (for reals!) I would tell a doctor, even a woman, (excluding new gp--haven't gotten there yet), that I was entering a certain age, they would just pooh-pooh me. I think for awhile my pdoc thought I embroidered these stories of neglect. Last week DH went and confirmed treatment (or lack of) by a particular doc known to him.

Today he called with a referral of someone who is 'patient and won't turn to salt' (?) on me.

Does that mean I am the apocalypse Lot's wife looked at?

Thanks, Phillipa. Hugs :)

Mine ended up getting tested hormones that is when my pdoc suggested maybe estrogen might help. Hence antiaging doc and the hormones still may get off. But good then you will know!!!! I sent you another newsletter that deals with inflammation and pain naturally. Now what is this about Hubby? Love Phillipa
