I'm currently taking Parnate at 30mg (to be increased to 60mg gradually) and am also taking 150mg of Seroquel at night. I take the Seroquel for insomnia because ambien and lunesta eventually stopped working for me. But I don't know if taking the Seroquel is interfering with the benefits of taking an MAOI.
I was previously on Nardil and it improved my atypical depression for the first time (although I hit a wall and stopped improving). I had to stop taking it though because I was getting dizzy all the time and passing out. Now I'm on Parnate and hope it will have less side effects and break through that barrier of depression which prevents me from enjoying activities.
My question I guess is whether the Seroquel might be getting in the way of improving my depression while I'm taking Parnate? Last summer, I stopped taking Seroqul for about 1 week and started feeling a little bit better (although it was only a small improvement). I started taking it again though because of sleep problems. My doctor keeps telling me that Seroquel improves atypical depression, but from what I read, Seroquel mostly works with bipolar patients and manic symptoms.
I just want to create the best opportunity for the Parnate to work. But this is hard to do when I need other meds like Seroquel to sleep. Maybe I should go back to taking a higher dose of Ambien?

I also am taking seroquel with Parnate. 25 mg at night. I have never tried Ambien. In all the years that I have taken Parnate (more than 20 years) nothing has ever worked so well for sleep. However, if it interferes with the Parnate it would not be worth it. In my case I don't feel the Parnate (70 mg) is as effective as it was many years ago. I should add that I am also taking 900 mg Lithium. Well, its difficult to find these things out. I have now been on the seroquel one month.

Since you feel there's a possibility the seroquel's affecting parnate's positive effects, I'd definitely try the ambien for a few days to see if it makes a difference.
150mg seems rather high for just sleep...have you tried taken only, say, 50mg for sleep? I have been taking seroquel with parnate as well, though I've just about decided to go off the parnate cause it's not helping me at all after 6 weeks and it's shot my blood pressure through the roof. I take 1mg xanax + 50mg seroquel for sleep and it definitely knocks me out much better than ambien or lunesta.
Anyway, I'd try going off he seroquel a few days and just see if you feel any better. If not, you could go back on it. I do think, if there's a possibility it's going to interfere with parnate, that the possibility's greater at a higher dose, though, so perhaps if you were able to make it on only 50mg for sleep, that would effect it less.

I just want to say that I am in awe that Parnate has helped you for so long. You are very lucky. I hope it continues.
