I am curious if the causes of anxiety are understood.
It seems starting an ssri tends to cause anxiety in a lot of people, due to the increase in serotonin levels.
Wellbutrin, which raises dopamine and norepinephrine levels, also causes anxiety for a lot of people.
Does increasing ANY monoamine increase anxiety? It seems very strange and even after years of reading posts, articles, drug descriptions etc. I still don't understand why everything seems to increase anxiety, at least for some people or for awhile.
I have the impression that stimulantes increase anxiety too, for those prone to anxiety.
Are there any pro-sexual drugs that don't increase anxiety?
Unfortunately with Wellbutrin it seems the anxiety for me always gets worse over time, not better like with ssri's, so I always have to stop taking it.

My one week trial with wellbutrin years ago with benzos added put in a condition by pdoc thought was some sort of mania. Just couldn't sit still. Phillipa ps so I don't know why either but seems that dopamine in this form does but arent pain pills like percocet dopamine also and they make some feel good. I don't get it either. Phillipa

Im only at 150mg of wellbutrin. But theres no anxiety so far, not even when I take adderall as well.
The last time I was on this stuff I was at 300mg along with 20mg celexa and I was really anxious.
Too much wellbutrin and/or a weird celexa response? Who knows.
Is the anxiety the deep dark sort that comes from depression? Or the restless, hyperactivated type that youd expect from too much stimulation?

I normally suffer from social anxiety and depression and take celexa and klonopin for those.
Normally at home I don't have anxiety, unless I am really worried about something (like an upcoming social situation like a job interview).
When on wellbutrin, even at 150 mg a day, I found I was experiencing generalized, knot-in-the-chest, out-of-nowhere anxiety at night at home while just sitting around. It was obviously the wellbutrin causing it and it stopped when I stopped the wellbutrin. This effect took awhile to show up (probably 4-6 weeks) and it was also accompanied by sharp chest pains, which also stopped when I stopped the wellbutrin.
This is the end of the thread.
