Hi All,
I was taking Seroquel XR 100mg for depression and anxiety, but Dr and I made the decision to switch to another drug because I was gaining weight. I was around 170# (5'11") when I started Seroquel, and was around 188-189# when I stopped. I finally got settled on a total dose of 60mg of Geodon daily, which I understand does not cause weight gain, but I unfortunately have not lost weight. I may have gained another 1-2lbs,but I've been pretty much been the same weight for the past month-1.5mos despite me eating better, taking my vitamins, fish oil, CLA, etc.
I have not exercised ,as I haven't had time lately. that's the only thing I really haven't tried. but I was hoping that once switching to Geodon, that I would lose the weight that I gained from Seroquel.
Has anyone else experienced this? What is the best way for me to lose these pounds? I do not want to be fat again ,because it makes me depressed. The majority of the weight is in my stomach/hips.. I am a 29yo male.
thanks all!
-Jason

Do you definitely need to be on an antipsychotic? Standard meds not effective?

You're not likely to see any weight loss as a benefit of switching from Seroquel to Geodon. Geodon also poses a risk of weight gain, just not as great as Seroquel.
Topemax or Zonegran can help with losing weight.

What other meds have you tried for anxiety/depression? Why an antipsychotic does your condition produce psychosis. You say you've been too busy to excercise. That's a good sign as doesn't sound like it MDD is it moderate to slight? Phillipa

Hi, maybe your metabolism has to get back to normal from the seroquel. One and a half months isn't that long although I know it seems like a long time when you are waiting for something to happen. I hope you drop the weight off soon.
