Japanese Knotweed 2 caps tid
Metagenics D3 5000iu
Emergen-C 1000mg bid
Thorne B Complex#12
Thornie Ultimate E
Country Life Max For Men 1/4 bid
Glucosamine Sulfate tid
Biosil 4 drops
Garden of Life Perfect Food cap at each eating
Thorne Pic-Mins
Magnesium Malate tidNot quite as straight forward as regular stuff from the store, because these particular products have a variety of different things in them....for example the B-Complex has two different kinds of B6, 2 different kinds of B12, etc, and the E is in three different forms.....all so that if there is any kind of metabolic roadblock or genetic problem in converting these, the right stuff is provided to account for that.
The entire handful of supplements has several targets...
Inflammation
Unknown infection bacterial or fungal
Neurotransmitter production
Collagen production
General detox...ample good stuff going in, rapid removal or displacement of bad stuff.Japanese Knotweed is not only a premiere base herb for infections of all kinds and inflammation, but is the world's most potent source of Resveratrol, which in on its own is a superstar.
Overall global improvement after 2 weeks....60%.
Improvement in:
Depression 70%
Motivation/anhedonia 75%
Anxiety 95%
Body,muscle, joint pains 40%
Brain fog 50%
Energy/endurance 50%
Attitude at morning waking 60%.
Hydradenitis 40%I wish I could say any of the dozens of psych meds I took over the last 15 years had done as well. But they didn't. I am still a fan, I just think people rely on them too much as sole treatments or firstline treatments or longterm treatments, when in my opinion they should not be any of those. Depression is caused by stuff. Fix the stuff.
But wait, bleauberry, you are an odd case, what works for you won't work for the rest of us. I can hear it already.
Diet is also very clean, organic mostly, with balanced veggies, meats, very little sugars or anything you can't pronounce. Also gluten free and limited dairy.
Even if none of the things I've mentioned were a problem, the supplements are perfectly healthy and pro-health. No harm done in a failure. But, where stubborn depression exists, one or all of those problems are very very likely present.

Bleauberry,
I'm glad to hear that you're feeling much improved on the regimen of supplements that you're taking. I think that your current response shows that there are always options available to treat the symptoms that you described and that these options might not always be the conventional treatments that are so often mentioned on this board. I think that treatment-resistant individuals like myself need to be aware that herbs like Japanese Knotweed do exist and that they may be able to treat symptoms of depression that do not respond to more standard neurotransmitter-modulating approaches. I think that your response can provide a lot of hope, especially for patients who have tried one medication after another with little to no success. Your response is a testament to the fact that "alternative" treatment approaches can and do work, and that even though it may take some time to find the right treatment, there are a lot of promising supplements that can help in areas that conventional psychiatry can't. I admire your perseverance in continuing to challenge your symptoms despite setbacks, obstacles, and treatment failures. The fact that you seem to be closer to remission than ever after 15 years of psychiatric difficulties gives me hope, and I think it should give others hope too.

Bleuaberry, that's great news. Thanks for sharing your success. I've been reading about knotweed. I'll ask my acupuncturist/tcm person.
Glad you're feeling better.

I started all of the supplements simultaneously at the same time.
None of them on their own ever did me any good, so I was skeptical. Synergy is where it's at I guess. And I have to put a plug in for Thorne Research. Excellent products unmatched in performance by anything else on the market.

I'm sure you've taken a strong turmeric/curcumin supplement, why none in your current supplement?
Why emergen C instead of other vitamin c supplements? Powdered drink versions absorb better? Ever heard of Amla? It's the most poten natural plant source of vitamin C. Himalaya makes a good one, I've been meaning to contact them to find out how much vitamin C is in it.
Have you thought about taking anything else for energy/stamina? Cordyceps? Schisandra? Ginseng? I'm sure you've tried one or all of these.
Why the lower dose of Biosil? Did you know beer is the one of the best or the best source of orthosilisic acid? I'm using Jarrowsil, it was formulated by the same guy that did Biosil. I hope it's as good.
What other supplements have you tried? For joints? For brain fog?
Is exercise a part of your regimen?
Sorry for all the questions : )

i'm glad you are feel much better. i myself am looking to try a more healthy approach assuming it's not too expensive since i can't afford much.
which of these would you recommend for someone with strong depression (caused by accutane which is vitamin A overdose) and to a much lesser degree social anxiety.
my strongest symptoms usually are poor drive, poor motivation, lack of enjoyment, very poor concentration, very poor memory (ECT made it worse), low sense of reward, on and off low energy, on and off heavy insomnia (depending on my med).
if you or anyone has any input i would very much appreciate any suggestions.

accutane is a pill form of evil. taking a standard dose of accutane is often equal to 20-40 times the daily recommended amount of vitamin A intake we should be getting. that is how it has caused short term and long term mental illness in countless people. a congressman's son even killed himself over it.
often stopping accutane turns ppl back to normal but in some cases such as mine it did not turn out that way.
any day where i am not in pain is a blessing and those days are profoundly rare

This doesn't mean that I am not interested in your catagorizing of drugs, but that there is an outstanding request from me to Mr. Hsiung to find out how I and others could tell others how they could find infomation that is prohibited from one posting here. Here is a link to my request to Mr. Hsiung.

um. Accutane is not a cream... that's something else. Accutane is an orally taken medication which can have disasterous side effects for some people. it was not until some years ago that new warning labels stating the risk of mental illness and suicide were put on the product.
thanks to this wrecklessness many ppl have suffered...

I am a fan of that amazing plant. The problem is, while it is almost always anti-inflammatory and anti-depression, in my case it was the opposite. I've made three diffferent attempts at it.
>
> Why emergen C instead of other vitamin c supplements? Powdered drink versions absorb better?According to my doctor, yes. There is the added synergy of the other vitamins in it.
>Ever heard of Amla? It's the most poten natural plant source of vitamin C. Himalaya makes a good one, I've been meaning to contact them to find out how much vitamin C is in it.
I'll check it out.
>
> Have you thought about taking anything else for energy/stamina? Cordyceps? Schisandra? Ginseng? I'm sure you've tried one or all of these.Coryceps didn't feel good to me. The ginsengs were too potent for me even at tiny doses. I've never tried Schisandra so I'll take a look at it.
>

I hope it's as good.I take Jorrowil. Working my way up in dosage. Its primary purpose is to speed up collagen repair and generation, in conjunction with some other supplements. This is important in Lyme. I've heard there are other benefits for healthy people.
>
> What other supplements have you tried? For joints? For brain fog?For joints, nothing. Advil. Vicodin rocks, but geez I think I could get addicted, so I rarely ever take it. Great for an emergency in depression or pain, it just works. For brain fog I tried modafinil, adrafinil, ritalin, adderal. Ritalin felt fairly ok, more energy, less brain fog, better mood. The others felt bad. I didn't want the stimulant addiction route. I haven't really tried any of the brain fog plants. I have some Huperzine not yet tried.
>
> Is exercise a part of your regimen? My clinical picture showed hypoadrenalism a couple years ago, so it has been and continues a slow recovery which is normal for that. Hard exercise is kept to a minimum. I get a lot on my job anyway. Recommended are non-impact exercises such as stretch bands or weights.

Thanks for the response BB..
There may be some concerns over Huperzine. I've considered taking it as acetylcholinesterase inhibitors like Huperzine can increase growth hormone. My body is a wreck so I feel I could use a little growth hormone boost. Here are a few threads about hup a at Imminst on hup a and some concerns about long term use,
If you do use Hup A at some point, at least there might be some info in these threads on how it may best be used.
I would check out Acetyl L Carnitine as a safer and better alternative to Hup A. You may or may not have heard of ALCAR before.

bleauberry,
Have you tried licorice root for inflammation? It's supposed to increase cortisol levels, and some people can reduce their dose of steroids/cortisone if they take it. It also helps the body to detox; in fact, it can be used as a treatment for toxic reactions to certain substances.

Hi Bleuberry,
Interested in what alternative treatments you would recommend for me.
The main things I am suffering from are anhedonia, heavy fatigue, brain fog and mild depression.
I still have the strange 'cycle' where I feel better in the morning and worse around 2 oclock.
I believe the fatigue is still from lactimal withdrawal which I stopped a couple of weeks ago.
Where would be a good place to start?
