Hello. I get to go see my doctor tomorrow and I must say that the past 3 weeks have been absolutely horrendous for me. I am 27 and I have had atypical treatment resistant depression w/ poor memory, difficulty concentrating, low mood, drive, motivation, enjoyment, non social, low energy, and to a lesser degree anxiety.I am on Parnate now, 20mg. 30mg has led me to have a numb hand for an entire month so I cannot go higher than 25mg. Sensitive to meds.
I also take ritalin 2.5mg 4 times daily, and gabapentin 300mg twice a day.
These 3 meds have been some of the very few out of many that have been able to help.
But please let me know what else I can try because one of my symptoms that I have had for ages is burning pains in my head and it's often the worst when my depression is the worst. It's been very bad the past 3 weeks but better lately since I quit taking valium.
What can I add to my mix that could possibly help? My doctor could use suggestions as he is more versed in SSRI's and non MAOI type meds but it's too hard to find a doctor who knows it all these days. Feel free to post more than just one suggestion if possible. It took a lot out of me to even come here and post this. I feel like a tiny fraction of my former self and I don't know why things got worse over past month.

Ahh, the only thing that makes it hard for you is that your very senistive to meds so the doctor has to be extra careful what he recommends, i'd hope so. I dont know of many medications you can combine with MAOI's, I myself take Nardil and only combine it with a Benzo. Best wishes.

You can try Lithium (I take this with Nardil). You can also try one of the thyroid meds (Cytomel). Tricyclics such as Nortriptyline might be taken, but usually only university doctors try this. You can try Inositol (over-the-counter supplement).

This may not be a good suggestion.... but have you tried Lyrica instead of gabapentin?

lyrica sounds familiar. i may have tried it. i'll need to try to dig up my list. but i'll be sure to check it out online soon when my head is feeling a little more clear. i'll make a note of it. ty for the suggestion

Concerning hand numbness, have you had medical attention? I had sudden onset hand numbness in the morning, sometimes interrupting my sleep. I had carpal tunnel. Go figure. I had no idea and it came on overnight.
I have also experienced a drug trial causing another underlying med condition to surface.
In my case, I'm able to address the carpal tunnel seperately with physical therapy and discover to my great relief that it was not really med related.

I was prescribed provigil to combat the somnolence caused by Nardil. I didn't find it did much at all truth be told but my PDoc said quite a few of his patients had responded well to it.
