I have heard a lot of good about teva and a lot of bad. I have heard almost nothing about mylan and don't like side effects. I am up to 100 mg's of mylan. Trying to get to at least 200. Should I switch now before it gets to hard or just stick with what I have been taking? I went straight on the generic, did not come off of the brand. I think Teva took a beating early because most people were coming off brand. Thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!

I am not a fan of Lamotrigine at all. Out of all the anticonvulsants/anti-epileptics/mood stabilizers, lamotrigine has the most potential to damage the brain. A friend recently pointed out that some of my current issues may be due to my past use of lamotrigine and it's potential to impair Long Term Potentiation. It is the one "mood stabilizer" that seems to be adversely affecting people's neurological function long after cessation from the drug-I've heard several reports of this happening with Lamotrigine, but not other mood stabilizers.
If you really need Lamotrigine and have exhausted all options, I do think the priority should be feeling better, so go ahead and take it.

Unfortunately, I need lamotrigine in my treatment regime to help keep me from feeling my worst. It definitely possesses antidepressant properties. However, I am not sure it will work well as monotherapy. My doctor likes combining lamotrigine with Wellbutrin.
In my experience:
Clinically, Teva lamotrigine is not as effective as GSK Lamictal. Mylan lamotrigine totally sucks.
Go with Teva.

Well, if there are indeed differences between the two preparations, the choice is probably clear. If there weren't, I would personally not choose Teva.. it's an Israeli company, and in the current situation (i.e. under PM Netanyahu), I'd prefer not to indirectly (via taxes) give money to the state of Israel. But that's just a personal consideration.

I had gone on lamictal when was brand no generic available and didn't notice a thing but a bit of anger in retrospect after had to stop it due to rare side effect not the rash salivation. If the generic is working I'd say just stick with it and don't worry about it. We're all different. Phillipa

It must be difficult to reconcile one's political views with his survival needs.

Thanks Scott...went with the teva and plan to add an AD in a couple weeks. While the generic does not work as well as brand, I'm hopeful that not coming off brand and going on generic directly will suffice. I have read everything I could possibly read about it here and elsewhere and got really confused. I have only read that mylan sucks and teva has been very effective for some and not for others. Are you still taking it? Side effects? I,m sweating like crazy on the mylan. What about taro? Thanks again. At least I got one decent answer out of this post.

I was forced to go with GSK Lamictal when no other generic would work at the same dosage. Of course, the insurance company made me jump through hoops to get it. My guess is that I might have been able to respond to 300mg of Teva versus the 200mg of GSK that I take now.

but when one can choose between identical products, the "survival need" thing falls out of the equation.

Teva worked for me just fine, but then my pharm switched me to Dr. Reddy's. They no longer carry Teva, so I had to switch back to brand.
Horrible, horrible, horrible. Do NOT take that if you can in any way avoid it! Absolutely no effect at all--it was like going cold turkey from Lamictal.
"Dr. Reddy's" is a big new player from India coming into the US generic market. They sound like some kind of old snake-oil company, and I think they are. Boy, that FDA really takes care of us, doesn't it?
This is the end of the thread.
