Ritalin experiment.

Posted by Conundrum on September 25, 2010, at 23:04:57

So the last few days I've been feeling pretty down. Actually feeling hopeless and sad, not just anhedonic(which in someways was a relief). I thought maybe it is because we had to discontinue my abilify trial a while ago. So i thought I'd see if ritalin I had around would help, since it can boost dopamine like low dose abilify. Within an hour I was feeling better. I dosed a few times through out the day. It made me kind of hyper and had a harder edged feeling. No euphoria or anything. Anyway I last took one around 8 and now that its wearing off I feel better which is surprising. Its like I still have energy but not with that wired forced feeling while still feeling hopeful. So back to baseline.

I think its safe to say ritalin isn't a good drug for me. I guess it can pull me out of a total sh!t hole, but it is a very artificial feeling.

I don't think I will do this tomorrow. It was interesting to see that I feel better off this drug than on it.

Sort of like you, I find ritalin an excellent emergency med to use on an as-needed basis, but I run into problems when I use it continuously. It is a lifesaver at the right tiimes.

I agree. I take Adderall XR for depression but the depression lurks underneath the Adderall. It's a false sense of well being. I was prescribed it to help get me going (I was spending days in bed) so that I could get going (exercising, going out with friends etc)! I won't be on this med for long I hope.

Its interesting how shorter acting reuptake inhibitors cause a false sense of wellness, but drugs that work over a longer period of time often do not.

It is interesting. You can get a quick fix with stimulants, but you crash just as quickly. They have their use though.

Now this I find interesting. Because ritalin weirded out on me or vice versa, I had to stop taking it daily. The few I had left over I used in emergencies and it was great. I find it is an excellent as need med. It's a shame I don't have any left. I could really use something like that at the moment to pull me out of a nasty bupropion hole.

Because bupropion is not working out so great for me, I found if I had a crumb of ritalin it would help me enormously. I really wish I had some left but the doc says NO, so I'm doing what he says.

It's funny that the insane body tension bupropion gives me completely goes away with 2.5mg of ritalin and makes me feel almost normal. My muscles relax, I stop clenching my jaw. I have already cracked a tooth right down to the gum from bupropion after 3 weeks and it got infected and had to be pulled out.
