option to relace stimulants with other medications

Posted by rjlockhart04-08 on September 23, 2010, at 15:49:53

I've been off them for a while, and really Its a trigger to talk about them. But I need to come to a solution of what to do. My doctor is strict.

Now what could replace them - i've heard of wellbutrin and parnate and provgiel but I can't take provigel.

What options are there to replace to stimulantion they gave?

I really bad for you. You are always trying to seek a stimulant effect ( I am not picking you on you at all) Desipramine is sometimes used for ADD and it's not addictive. I don't think a doctor would put you on Parnate (and for some people it has the opposite of a stimulant effect).

Why do you feel you need a stimulant? Is it because of your ADD, or do you just like the way makes you feel?

You were diagnose bipolar, is that right? Sometimes when people are bipolar they miss that high of when they go hypo(per)mic. They are depressed. So maybe you are missing the high you get from being hypermanic.

Just some thoughts.

If you try wellbutrin, I'd recommend trying the brand version first. I guess you can't take desipramine if you BP right?

I'm BP Type 2 and I was on Desipramine for about 6 months. It didn't make me go manic at all. I stopped it because I couldn't go pee and was actually getting dangerous. Stupid side effects!

Some doctors are prescribing muscarinic agonists do deal with some of urinary retention, dry mouth, and constipation. Could be good for ADHD if it doesn't cause RJ to become manic.

We'll for a while ... I truely needed a stimulant when I was going to school because of the severe attnetion problems and I just would lose everything. Of course if I took a stimulant It would of been better, the only place I feel know that can ever get me a stimulant is God, I even think about asking the devil "can you get me a doctor to prescibe them???" well, even the devil would even say no, because practaully your an addict to them.... because he enjoys watching me suffer, along with all the other disasters he creates. I've been doing alot of research him. Many forms, many time periods, he never get's old.

But anyway's.... No doctor's are opimistic about them, we'll exept one doctor who basically was addicted to them himself, everywhere in his office "concerta.com" "vyvanse.com" "focalin.com" and he had so many flyers to advertise them it was ... it was acutlly nice for me because he had no problem prescibing a long acting stimulant because he thought they have lower abuse potential. Nope...according to me I would open the Dexedrine Spansules up and crush the time releas and take it as powder. I never snorted...or anything but it just show's that even opening them up is something that is of some concern of addiction.

I acutally take Zyprexa for bipoler depression but really to honestly tell you, I don't think I am. I have major depression with anxiety issues, and alot of attentional problems.

Thanks for the post!!! hope this adderall will help you!

they have Aplenzin. I've tried it, and the regular wellbutrin xr. Wellbutrin does have a kick to when you first take it but it doesnt last like a stimulant does. It's a mild stimulant that work like Rililin and Cocaine, by blocking dopamine from being reuptakin. But Wellbutrin is ... not abusable at all, ugh! i rerember how much anxiety it gave me!!!

I need to ask about desipramine

But thanks for post

I've read that aplenzin might not be as bad with anxiety. I just started a thread about aplenzin, so please let me know what it does for you.

I didn't know that. The urinary retention was the worse side effect. I had to go to the hospital and they used a catheter. Lovely. I have been on a lot of TCAs and I never had that side effect.

Thanks, I took my first Adderall today and it helped. It didn't make me feel speedy, or tired the way Dexedrine did. You are probably right about your diagnosis. Do you take anything for the anxiety? I know that ADs are suppose to help with that but not all do. The Zyprexa should be helping you with the anxiety. Do you take on a regular basis?

Thanks again!

Yes, I take Zyprexa around night time. It does help with anxiety, I was on 30mg at one time and it caused me to twich which got scary so I moved down to 10mg. But yes it works well for anxiety. I also take Buspar 15mg X 3 daily and really to be honest it doesnt do much. I read buspar helps with serotonin but not much with me...i don't feel anything with buspar.

Thanks!
