AD induced initial mania...i like it!!

Posted by rovers95 on September 8, 2010, at 6:21:42

Whenever I start an AD I get a mild sort of mania for the 1st few weeks, where I am on cloud 9 and can function as a normal person would...if not more so!

This tends to settle down into a milder antidepressant effect where things revert back to the norm but without going really low.

I really like this mania and was wondering whether it is possible to maintain it in any way when I add 25mg zoloft to my dosulepin...dosing every other day or something?

I should note here than I only am prone to mania when I start an AD...without an AD I'm just plain depressed!

Cheers

Rover

Rovers are you bipolar? As it sounds like you just get an initial high and then respond to an ad. So what you are saying is ad's work for you and relieve depression for you? If so this sounds like an ideal situation. To make it last know of nothing. Is it mania or just feeling much better than you did before. As once this happened to me. Would love to hear what others say. Phillipa

No, thats the problem they don't relieve my depression....they definetly do something positive long term which i can quite put my finger, breathing is easier, sleep is better, pain is reduced, i am better generally when not under stress.

My diagnoses so far have been depression, anxiety, social anxiety, CFS (or ME in the UK).

Maybe its feeling better but i think more of a mild hypomania i.e. i am superconfident/euphoric and i dont need that much sleep, but i still get stressed easily. I have even had this feeling with anti hay-fever stuff, scopolamine and phenytoin...scopolamine made me worse in the long run though.

I'm wondering if i augmented my dosulepin with zoloft 25mg every other day this feeling may last?

Rovers that is so strange to me. I don't know about zoloft and hard in UK to get meds I know. Fast positive reaction then poop out. Could it be that. Are you functioning despite at high level? Phillipa

That sort of feeling doesn't last. What goes up must come down.

When I first started lexapro, I had that reaction. I wouldn't call it mania, but I was sleeping less, felt euphoric at times, had no appetite, was aware of something coursing through my bloodstream and making me feel better. But after about 3 weeks, these effects went away and I felt better but not better than normal. By the way, when I stopped and started lexapro or any other SSRI/SNRI, I never had this feeling again. I would just go immediatly from one to another with maybe a week taper in between, so I never got un-accustomed to the serotonin boost.
