So I convinced my doc to let me try memantine for ADD-I. Previously, I was taking strattera for about 6 months, with very little benefit and a whole lot of unpleasantness.
Started 5mg wednesday morning. Felt depressed and irritable all morning, but it faded in the afternoon. I'm pretty certain it is the memantine. Also had a hard time falling asleep.
Yesterday, I felt vaguely depressed all day, but less so than Wednesday.
Obviously, no noticeable ADD effects yet, but I am still titrating up.
We'll see. Anyone else here ever take it for add-i symptoms? I've seen some other threads here on memantine, but for other dx'es...
Regards

Thanks Phillipa...
it's still making me depressed and unmotivated. I don't think this is going anywhere.

Hi there, don't know if it's too late and you stopped memantine, but wanted to let you know I just started it too. Just last night. If you wanted to share stories, I would love to hear how you are doing now and am hoping you are doing better. I did feel better yesterday, but am hoping that as I titrate, I will feel better. Good luck, let us know how your are doing now!

To anyone else tempted to give up early in the memantine titration: Stay with the titration schedule. It WILL smooth out considerably. I am currently on day 11 of memantine titration (started entire first week at 2.5mg only because 5mg was simply too strong for my system)
Although I did not suffer any debilitating side effects and have been able to go about my usual schedule from day one, I must advise that it took me 5 or 6 days before I could truthfully say that I noticed ANY positive effect from memantine with respect to ADD symptoms, but there are more and more noticeable effects each day, ALL of them positive. Stay the course! I will follow up with further comments if anyone is interested.

I'm interested. I can't recall any positive experiences with it here, though there easily might have been some.
Since it is so long acting and it can aggravate insomnia, I've been reluctant to start it.
Tell me how it affects your sleep in particular.
This is the end of the thread.
