Hi,
I took a single 5 mg dose of Buspar on Sunday to see if it would help my anxiety. I also take 17.5 mg of Zyprexa. On Sunday night I didn't sleep well, so I did not take the Buspar again.Ever since then, 5 days later, I am still not sleeping as well as I did before the Buspar. Can anyone please tell me when I can expect the negative effects of the Buspar to wear off?
thanks

I once was given buspar but it didn't effect me one way or the other so was taken off. I was also on bezos so maybe that helped. No idea with buspar thought a fairly benign dose and that isn't a high dose. Maybe others will know why. Phillipa

I dunno. Even though most of our meds seem to take weeks to create the longterm adaptive changes, in my experience some of them (random unpredictable) can cause immediate changes that may revert back to the original state quickly or slowly.Buspar is in and out pretty fast. Thus the multiple dosing of it. But whenever a med does mysterious stuff that no one really quite understands...such as serotonin agonism, partial agonism, dopamine antagonism/agonism...I mean, who knows what will happen with any given individual?
Buspar's metabolite is a alpha-antaganist, which means it stimulates the noradrenaline axis. Maybe you've got some of that still going on. It would explain the lousy sleep.
It's a bummer a single dose did that. My guess is you should be back to baseline in a week.
I think docs underestimate the potency and mystery of the meds they routinely prescribe. Because I have had several bizarre encounters similar to yours, any time I try something new I am rather hesitant and scared. Sometimes they surprise me and do good things instead of bizarre things, but it is totally unpredictable and I never know in advance.
