Hi there,
I was thinking about asking my pdoc about memantine for ocd and was wondering if anyone had any positive experiences with it and whether if anyone knows whether it is becoming more prevalent in psychiatry for depression/ocd rather than just being experimental? Many thanks for your response,Joseph

> JosephHi Joseph,
Using memantine for OCD is still experimental - evidence of efficacy is limited at the moment. As far as I am aware, there have been no double-blind randomised controlled trials. Evidence so far is based on case reports and a small number of relatively poor quality studies. There is some evidence to suggest that memantine has activity in OCD but not in GAD.

mogger, i trialled memantine for OCD a year ago with mixed results. i saw some improvement at a low dose, but was then quickly titrated up to 20mg, which just induced cognitive dysfunction and depression.
i've actually mail-ordered some from an internet pharmacy because i'm interested in retrialling it at a lower dose.
not many people seem to have had success against OCD here, though i wonder if that may have something to do with the nature of their OCD. the initial benefits i reaped were a decrease in anxiety and an increase in focus, so maybe it could indirectly help OCD (especially pure-O) by improving your ability to regulate your attention? i don't know.
This is the end of the thread.
