Libido back to normal after 7 1/2 years.

Posted by sukarno on June 7, 2010, at 12:10:34

I quit Stablon and Xanax in April 2010. My libido - which I thought was low due to advancing age - began to rise after 1 to 2 weeks off those drugs. (I take Valium instead of Xanax now and tapered down)

I am very pleased at this development. It used to be that looking at women had little to no effect on me. Now it is a totally different story. I feel (sexually) that I am back in my late 20s once more. :-)

I still struggle with depression and must use 3 to 4 hours of light therapy to keep it in check.

I take no other drugs besides Valium 10mg TID and strong black tea in the amount of 3 to 4 cups per day.

I get severe withdrawal symptoms if I don't drink tea: severe, throbbing headache, nausea, inability to concentrate, anxiety, flu-like symptoms and a new symptom (trembling/tremors). I find that a caffeine buzz, while it can be bad for panic disorder, is less distressing than caffiene withdrawal.

I heard that decaffeinated black tea will be devoid of antioxidants. Is it true? That's the reason why I drink so much tea. My goal is 10 cups a day as I read an article about an old scientist (late '70s or early '80s in age) advocated that after he "saw the evidence" in favor of it.

I don't have problems with sleep apnea anymore. I breathe a lot easier now (I have asthma) and wake up feeling more refreshed. I found the right balance of diazepam and caffeine to acheive alertness and anxiolysis.

If this project fails for some reason, I am going over to medical marijuana. 23 years of chronic depression and a 9 month old slightly painful lymph node in my neck (around the carotid artery). This is another reason I drink that much tea.. just in case it is something worse than a chronic bacteria infection.

Chronic lymph node could be an infection cyst that needs to be drained my Daughter had one as an l8 mth old. Has the doc seen this? Tea has a lot less caffeine than coffee. Why would valium be different than xanax with sexual desire? Both are benzos? Phillipa

Hi Phillipa. My wife and I both had a flu-like illness last September, except we didn't have a cough. Mostly low-grade fever, aches in the muscles/joints, tired and a sense of malaise that went away as soon as she took doxycycline 100mg bid for 10 days, although she had a Herxheimer reaction an hour after taking it which lasted 6 hours and was pretty bad. She recovered and only relapsed a few times mildly.

I didn't take any antibiotics and it finally left me 7 weeks later but I relapse from time to time.

Xanax increases 5-HT (serotonin) release and noradrenaline. That could account for the libido-blunting effects or it could be the high dose I was on (1mg QID). Stablon could have also been the culprit as I remember in 2008 I was on diazepam and Stablon and still had low libido.

Take care. :-)
